Review: Works right out the box and that is Amazing! It stopped working I ordered a replacement! - Update: It stopped working and I ordered a replacement because I love it! First, let me say I love my MacBook Pro and it is my baby. Everything I hook up to has to be an item that I trust. I have completed a lot of research on external hard drives. The majority of them have to be formatted to even work with the MacBook. This WD 2TB My Passport for Mac Portable External Hard Drive does not need to be formatted. Also, I do not need an adapter for it to fit. This is specially designed for Mac and Time Machine and USB-C and USB-A compatible and Password protected. It is just so easy to use. It works straight out of the box. I use it to import and export movies. Also to store photos from my computer in order not to use up my storage or in case something happens to my computer. It is also small for me to carry on the go easily. This works so easily and I am happy I did not have to set up anything else to make it work. Review: Western Digital Drive to Backup My Macbook Air - Western Digital has always been a more stable and reliable product line for me in the HDD space whether internal or external. This drive is no different. So far, it has provided the stability and reliability that I have grown accustomed to. It is perfect for a simple backup drive I can use to backup my Macbook I plan to eventually use as a work machine. I may purchase another Macbook with the 1 TB drive and 24 GB of memory, or maybe 32 GB. I will purchase another one of these drives to as a backup drive for that system when the time comes. I recommend this drive. It is small, lightweight, and it appears to allow speedy transfer and write of data. ## Features - Designed for Mac. - Slim durable design to help take your important files with you. - Mac-ready and USB-C compatible for effortless connectivity and functionality. - Vast capacities up to 6TB[1] to store your photos, videos, music, important documents and more. - Back up smarter with included device management software[2] with defense against ransomware. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B07VSPL8FJ | | Additional Features | Hardware Encryption, Portable | | Best Sellers Rank | #36 in External Hard Drives | | Brand | Western Digital | | Built-In Media | Portable hard drive, SuperSpeed USB-A cable (5Gbps), USB-A to USB-C adapter, Software for device management and backup with password protection, Quick install guide | | Cache Memory Installed Size | 2 | | Color | Navy | | Compatible Devices | Desktop, Laptop | | Connectivity Technology | USB | | Customer Package Type | Standard Packaging | | Customer Reviews | 4.4 out of 5 stars 8,657 Reviews | | Data Transfer Rate | 1 megabytes_per_second | | Digital Storage Capacity | 2 TB | | Enclosure Material | plastic or metal | | Form Factor | 2.5-inch | | Global Trade Identification Number | 00718037869902 | | Hard Disk Description | Mechanical Hard Disk | | Hard Disk Form Factor | 2.5 inches | | Hard Disk Interface | USB 3.2 | | Hard Disk Rotational Speed | 1 | | Hard-Drive Size | 2 TB | | Hardware Connectivity | USB 3.0, USB 3.2 Gen 1 | | Hardware Platform | Mac | | Installation Type | External Hard Drive | | Item Dimensions L x W x Thickness | 4.22"L x 2.95"W x 0.44"Th | | Item Weight | 4.23 ounces | | Manufacturer | Western Digital Technologies, Inc. | | Media Speed | 130 | | Mfr Part Number | WDBA2D0020BBL-WESN | | Model Name | My Passport for Mac | | Model Number | WDBA2D0020BBL-WESN | | Number of Items | 1 | | Read Speed | 130 megabytes_per_second | | Special Feature | Hardware Encryption , Portable | | Specific Uses For Product | Personal | | UPC | 718037869902 | | Unit Count | 1 Count | | Warranty Description | 3-year manufacturer's limited warranty | ## Product Details - **Brand:** WD - **Color:** Navy - **Compatible Devices:** Desktop, Laptop - **Connectivity Technology:** USB - **Digital Storage Capacity:** 2 TB - **Hard Disk Description:** Mechanical Hard Disk - **Hard Disk Form Factor:** 2.5 Inches - **Hard Disk Interface:** USB 3.2 - **Installation Type:** External Hard Drive - **Special Feature:** Hardware Encryption, Portable ## Images ![WD 2TB My Passport for Mac, Navy, Portable External Hard Drive with backup software and password protection, USB 3.1/USB 3.0 compatible - WDBA2D0020BBL-WESN - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/618VbHZAaOL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Color, Size, Style** options. ## Questions & Answers **Q: What type of data connection does it have installed in the drive? female "usb-c" or female "micro-b super speed"? or is it another type?** A: The drive has a USB Micro-B port. It comes with two cables, USB-A to USB Micro-B and USB-C to USB Micro-B. So it will work with your computer if it has either a type-A or type-C USB port (Thunderbolt-3 on a Mac also uses a type-C port and you can plug this drive into one of those ports, too). The drive is a 5400rpm spinning platter drive and the enclosure runs at USB 3.0 speeds (also known as USB 3.1 gen1). The drive itself is way slower than the interface, there’s no reason to use a USB 3.1 gen2 interface or Thunderbolt with a spinning platter drive. **Q: Is this compatible with ps4** A: PS5- Yes you can also follow the same steps to format for PS5. It works I did it on mine! A: How to format for PS4: Head to Settings > Devices > USB Storage Devices and select your external hard drive. Select Format as Extended Storage and tap X. Select Next and tap X. Select Format and tap X. Select Yes and tap X. Select Okay and tap X. It showed up on mine as : PS4 external hard drive. **Q: How is this model different than the one called wd 2tb black my passport portable external hard drive - usb 3.0 - wdbs4b0020bbk-wesn ?** A: 3 differences: 1. The size of the casing for this drive is smaller. 2. It does not have rubber stomps on the bottom to keep it from sliding. 3. The operation light is smaller. Other than that, it's the same: USB3 and NTSF. **Q: Is there really any difference between this mac passport & their other passport drives other than being pre-formatted? or is it a gimmick?** A: I have been buying the preformatted for Mac WD Passport drives for several years, but the the last time they were unavailable at a reasonable price so I bought two more of the design that looked like the black casing was two separate pieces joined together, and I had no problem formatting it on my MacBook Pro in a few seconds. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works right out the box and that is Amazing!
