I have never had to sharpen them, previous types I have sharpened about every 25 ft of cutting, many many times. They still look and work like new and will cut paper and peel ply. These are precisely as advertised. Very heavy duty, very sharp, built to last more than a lifetime if properly used and maintained. These are perfect for any number of tasks, including kitchen work, but I have reserved them for working with fabrics and papers, as a go-to tool for my various hobbies. These are not a light-weight hobbyist tool, but rather a serious professional tool. I got sick of plastic-handled scissors failing and snapping off at the ends and decided to pay more for something of value. They arrived with a handy carrying case and a protective fitting to protect the points when not in use. I expect them to outlive me.
