How do you distinguish +/- in long runs?** A: Both strands of wire are identical. The only difference is one is marked with a blue stripe to help you identify that specific strand. When connecting the wires, ensure you connect each strand to the same corresponding terminal on each end of your connection. For example, blue stripe to negative, no-stripe to positive. Connect in the same manner on both ends and you shouldn't have any problems. Pure copper 8 gauge audiophile rated wire over the years. For the price, I have nothing but high marks for the Monoprice brand and products I have purchased. Many cry “snake oil” when discussing speaker cable, and I think many diy users are quite subjective on their rating. So be it. I use the best connectors I can afford, measure my cable length to the 1/8” sometimes and give new materials time to break in. I highly recommend the brand and will continue to enjoy the savings of all my diy cable making products. I will continue using Monoprice wiring until something changes. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Seems Legit - Monoprice Choice Series 16 AWG *by R***R on December 30, 2021* I’m Happy with my purchase, and given the mixed reviews on packaging and quality I thought I’d provide an updated review on Monoprice Choice Series 16 AWG. I almost did not purchase because of all the bazaar reviews.Application: 5 satellite speakers for “surround sound” in my home office.Packaging:Product arrived in a plastic Amazon bag. inside the bag was a well packaged box with a Monoprice barcode and part number on four sides(see pics if you are interested). Inside the box was a generic looking spool with the same barcode and part number listed on the outside of the box. The cable was well wound around the spool and secured with adequate, though weak shrink wrap. The spool is generic looking and it isn’t falling apart any time in the next decade, not like other reviews have mentioned.On to the cable. The cable is plenty flexible for almost any reasonable needs. The plastic insulator on the outside of the cables is plenty thick to provide protection and the two wires separate easily from each other. The insulator is easily stripped without harming the copper strands inside and is labeled “Monoprice power limited…”, see picture for more words.The copper.I counted 26 individual strands in each conductor, or 52 total per wire. I picked a couple, strands and slowly went through the entire strand with a razor. Appears to be solid copper, no aluminum clad as others have stated.Performance:Resistance seem correct and my speakers sound fine…. And yes I use good quality 12 AWG for my higher performance systems. But 16 AWG is fine for this application. Most people can’t hear the difference between a $2000 12 AWG cable and a $20 AWG cable. If you think you can fine, buy the $2000 cable.Bottom line, I’m happy with the purchase and I would order again if I need more. Some reviewers have said this isn’t legit Monoprice cable. View the pictures and judge for yourself!Happy listening! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very impressed *by A***5 on December 6, 2018* First off, I'm definitely an audiophile - I can hear and very much notice the subtle differences that can occur with different systems, speakers, wires, etc. I've used Monster Cable products for many years and have always been impressed. But when it came down to needing to replace my speaker wire since I moved, I did some research trying to find the happy medium between "overpriced to the point it can't possibly sound THAT much better for the price" and "cheap junk". I read a lot about Monoprice's products and they seemed to be top notch, get good reviews, and work for what I needed. I have Klipsch Reference Premiere Floorstanding towers/surrounds and always want to get the best possible sound and performance out of them. In my 20+ years being a huge fan when it comes to home theater, I've found that while speaker wire quality makes a difference, there is no need to spend 500 dollars on some of the upper tier wire. But at the same time, getting the cheapest spool of it from the rack at your local store isn't the best bet either. I'm telling you, you will notice a difference between the very inferior cheap stuff, and something like Monoprice. You'll obvioiusly notice the difference between the cheap stuff and the very expensive stuff too, but the point I'm trying to make is that you won't notice enough of a difference to justify the massive price difference. So that's where Monoprice came into play for me. Priced higher than a novice would buy, but priced much more affordable compared to Audioquest, this was what I chose. And I'm so happy I did. As soon as I got it and unravelled it, I could see and feel the quality of it. It's very, very well made, and a quality item. The nice blue line helps solidify the polarity so you can connect the wires to your speakers and amp correctly. And they are very well insulated in terms of the plastic around the copper wire itself. As for the sound...I know many won't agree that there is a discernible difference, and it may not be mind blowing to anyone. But I can tell you, there is a difference and I can tell how well this speaker wire is made and performs because the music was full and deep like it was with my Monster Cable wire that I replaced. It was just as good, if not better than Monster.
