Didn't affect the usability though, and they were comfortable paddling for an hour or so. I do think I would prefer more cushion on the handles if I were going to be using for a longer period of time, but none of us got any blisters or anything. Great price and great product. I really wanted a carbon-shaft but thought spending more on the paddle than I did the entire kayak was stupid. Enter the SeaSense X-1. At a full 8 feet in length, I can dig the paddle in and pull like a steam engine in my inflatable kayak. The fit and finish on the shaft and blades is excellent--nothing cheap here. The foam grips are wide and do not move around. I am 6', 180 lbs. and was able to pull as hard as I could for over 30 minutes without any noticeable give or deflection in the shaft or blades. How can a $25 paddle perform so well? I think it's because aluminum is so easy to machine nowadays and also that a kayak paddle is a relatively simple product to manufacture, vs. a fiberglass or carbon fiber model.
