Soft brown leather. EXTREMELY comfortable. The distressed look is much better than ordinary single colour cowboy hats. I never thought I’d wear it much. It was more a “want” rather than “need” purchase. But I’m so glad I did it. I’ve bought several hats: some high quality tweed flat caps, some expensive wool felt pork pies, and this leather cowboy hat. I have to say this is the most comfy on the head. I haven’t tested it in the rain yet but based on other reviews, I believe it will hold up well. I wear it round the house for now. To look cool in front of the cat. But one thing I found useful was that if I leaned back to rest my head on the couch, the brim would easily fold down and I could rest quite comfortably. Then when I moved my head back off the couch, the brim would easily revert back to place. Very handy to have a large brim which doesn’t get in the way.Recommend!EDIT: wanted to like the hat but 1-2 weeks of only in-house use and the glue holding the leather band has given way. Wilds? Couldn’t even handle the trips from my bedroom to my lounge. This is great, you won't even know you're wearing it if you get the correct size. I found it perfect to the size chart (M). It's quite a soft leather, about half way between the feel of a calf-leather wallet and a dress belt - not at all like previous adventure hats I've bought in America which had very rough and thick cow leather. The look is a bit 'cowboy', but nobody has shouted at me on the street yet! Perfect for what I needed - a sun / light rain hat for outdoor camping and so forth.
