"1+1+1=4" and "The Return Of Doug Saldana" were simply two of Sahm's best, where his musical vision and genius shine brightly. He incorporated many musical styles into the mix and pushed the band further than they had gone before, incorporating Texas swing, country, R&B, cajun and jazz styles. He pioneered the roots rock sound that we know in the new century and predated it by a few decades. These albums completed his contract for Mercury Records and have been sought by collectors now for years! They mark a developmental and highly creative period in Sahm's musical legacy. Includes deluxe booklet and detailed liner notes and over 78 minutes of music.

Masterpiece material. We now know where Boz Scaggs got his vocal style and learned to incorporate horns on his records approx. 25 yrs. ago.Sir Doug; lives on. Raven Records of Australia always does stellar work. Explore their discs: Delbert McClinton & Glen Clark, also Mink DeVille amongst others.

I have been listening to Doug since 1956 (live at Tiffany Club in San Antonio)---always enjoyed his music through the years. These recordings bring back a lot of good memories.

I bought 1+1+1=4 in a bargain bin in the early 70s and played the hell out of it. What a great album -- great musicians and great material. Doug shows his mastery of a wide variety of genres -- blues, western swing, rock and roll, country, and of course Tex-Mex. That may sound like a directionless mix but it all hangs together wonderfully led by Doug's strong, weathered voice.  I don't recall Return of Doug Saldana so well, but I've never heard a Sir Doug album I didn't like so how can you beat two for one?
