I have carnivore plants that need drainage and cant have fertilizers unless theyre bugs so i just wanted to be** A: 100% Black Lava. No fertilizers! **Q: Could this be a good replacement for “fuji sand”, either fine or course? attempting to follow the guidance of kobayashi‘s book keshiki bonzai.** A: Hello and thank you for your inquiry. Fuji sand is comprised of black lava, where as, Premium/Boon Mix is comprised of red lava, Akadama and Pumice. To answer your question though, yes, this would work very well as black lava has very similar properties as the Premium mix; in that you will keep moisture retention but have optimal drain off. Please let us know if you have any other questions, as we are always glad to help. -Kevin Jr.- **Q: how many quarts in a package?** A: 2 Quarts of sifted Red Lava is included. It is sifted to eliminate the dust / power, so you receive more of what your ordered. Thank you **Q: Is this really as red as it appears in the photos?** A: It's a brick colored red. Hopefully that helps. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great product *by S***D on June 20, 2026* This works for what I needed for my bonsai that has grown so much. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect size pellets *by S***Y on January 13, 2026* Perfect size pellets for my succulents. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Arrival *by C***G on May 31, 2026* As expected ## Frequently Bought Together - Tinyroots Red Lava Rock for Plants, 2.25 Quarts, Sifted Bonsai and Cactus Soil Additive, Maintains Proper Moisture, Used for Top Dressing, Volcanic Rock, No Dyes or Chemicals - Bonsai Outlet Horticultural Pumice for Plants - Tinyroots Succulents, Cactus, Bonsai Plants - 100% Pure Bonsai Pumice Rocks, 1/4 inch Soil Additive, 2 Quarts - Tinyroots Akadama 2.25qt Bonsai Soil, Sifted Through 1/8 Inch Mesh Then Through 1/16 Mesh, Dust and Small Particles Removed --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.com.ar/products/153662108-tinyroots-red-lava-rock-for-plants-2-25-quarts-sifted](https://www.desertcart.com.ar/products/153662108-tinyroots-red-lava-rock-for-plants-2-25-quarts-sifted) --- *Product available on Desertcart Argentina* *Store origin: AR* *Last updated: 2026-10-13*
