Super Simple Quick-Fix!
My doorbell chime mechanism was making a "humming/buzzing" sound right after someone rang the doorbell. It was as though the outside doorbell button was stuck in the "pressed-in" position. I pulled the plastic white cover from the doorbell chime mechanism, took a snapshot of how the wiring was connected, then found this one on Amazon, which is basically an identical replacement. It can accommodate a total of 3 wires: a transformer wire in the center, one for a front doorbell and one for a rear doorbell (for people with doorbells at their back door). Since I have only a front doorbell, I had only 2 wires (a transformer wire and a wire going to the front doorbell screw-down post). This job takes all of 8 minutes.Let me also add that a "humming/buzzing" sound might possibly be a sign of a bad outside doorbell button, according to YouTube do-it-yourselfers. To troubleshoot for that issue, prior to fully installing the mechanism I had just bought on Amazon, I hooked up the wires to see if the new unit hummed as the old one did, and it turns out that it was humming as well. I then went outside, unscrewed the doorbell button, and checked it. I took the screws out, and removed the tiny little inner circuit board that was held in by the same screws used to mount it, and I could not see any problems.I put it back together, then went back inside and replaced the "newly purchased" door bell chime mechanism with the one I was replacing... just to see if the problem may have been the doorbell button. I also learned on YouTube that either wire going to the doorbell button can be screwed to either post, so I switched them around to see if that would help. The humming did go away, but instead of getting the "ding-dong" dual tone doorbell sound, I was only getting a the "ding" without the "dong." I then pulled off the old unit, and installed the newly purchased chime mechanism, and voila! It worked perfect. Only time will tell if I actually have a faulty button.Prior to buying a new mechanism, it may be worth your trouble to begin with purchasing a doorbell button, which can be found dirt cheap at your local hardware store (make sure that it is the EXACT same style button as the one you have, i.e. surface mount or recessed). If that does not solve your problem, you can return it, then buy this door bell chime mechanism. Changing it out was a piece of cake, and the YouTube videos pointed out that I did not need to worry about shutting off my electricity, because these units are super low voltage, which I found to be true.Good luck!

Replacement doorbell module broken in 2 months
I received my replacement doorbell module on July 1, 2022. Now, it is broken barely 2 months old. The tip of the plunger for the front door broke off so the spring pops off. Now, the doorbell hums and smells when you ring the front doorbell. Is there anyone I can contact to get a replacement module? After verifying that my doorbell's model number matched one of the compatible models listed, I ordered one. Replacing the old doorbell module was easy. Before you begin replacement, turn off the power for the doorbell at your service panel in your house. Some say you don't need to since it is low DC voltage, but better be safe than sorry!Three screws connect the doorbell module to the transformer and doorbell buttons. Mark these three wires as you disconnect them from the old module. Remove the two screws that hold the old module to the wall. Thread the 3 wires through new module and install new doorbell module to wall with the 2 screws and then connect the 3 wires that you marked.Turn the breaker back on and try out the new doorbell module.

Glad I found the parts I needed.
I ordered this because my vintage door bell plungers were sticky. We just bought the house and the previous owners/renters never lubricated the plungers. It is extremely hard to find old Nutone doorbell parts but I was able to rob pieces from this kit to fit my current set up. Because the solder broke on the rear doorbell hub screw I decided instead of replacing just the plungers, I replaced the entire hub. I don’t have a rear doorbell so it was more so to make sure the plunger tubes didn’t gunk up the new plungers. This hub box frame did not fit the dimensions of my current hub box frame, nor was the hub attached to frame the same way as my current hub. I ended up melting plastic from the new hub box frame to free the new hub in order to remove the plungers. I ended up using command strips to attach the new hub to my current box frame. I’m not sure how long it will last but I wanted to be able to remove the hub from the box in the future. So far- it works great!

Still available
Our Nutone Ringer went out after well over 20 years, so was thinking would probably have to buy a completely different unit, but on checking on Amazon, found one exactly the same for a good price, which arrived yesterday, and my husband connected it up in a matter of minutes and now we have a bell that works again. Very happy.
