They are water resistant, not water proof. They will keep your kiddos feet nice and dry on a hike, even if you have to cross a small stream. They keep your feet warm and dry in the winter, but are perfect for summer too. I dont think they would be best in deep, wet snow, but you could definitely hike a snowy trail in them, as long as the snow didnt come up over the boot. We spend a great deal of time in the woods, as we live in a very rural area. These boots stand up to briars, thorns, and rocky terrain. Merrell is great brand. Cant beat these kids boots for the price.

I strongly suspect he will outgrow them long before he wears them out, so the reasonable price for them is a plus. Overall, a solid purchase.

These Merrell ankle boots are great for kids , sturdy , warm and waterproof. They are easy to pull on and off with a Velcro closure rather than bothersome shoelaces. They are stylish , durable and a great value for the price. They run true to size and also come in wide widths for chubby little feet. Thumbs up 👍🏻
