As he is so much larger than I am, he was often stuck in the position he ended up in when I laid him down. With this sheet, I have him sit on the sheet on the side of the bed. I grab his knees and pivot him to a straight position in the bed. I then move to the other side of the bed and pull on the sheet until he is centered in the bed. After that he is able to lift up his hips just enough for me to remove the sheet and he is ready for the night. It has made a big difference in his ability to be comfortable in his hospital bed. This sheet works because it is shaped as a continuous circle of nylon fabric so that the fabric is spinning on itself, and not on the mattress. If you want to test the effectiveness of this sheet - try it out yourself. I put it on the floor and sat on it and was able to spin myself in a circle with very little effort. It is amazing how well it works. I only use it to position him in bed so there is no real danger of soiling the sheet. It would be dangerous to leave it in place all night as it is so slippery. I am not sure how it would wash and don't intend to find out. If you have never tried to position a person with severely limited mobility in bed, this may not sound like a big deal, but a little item like this has made a big difference in our quality of life.
