Installation took about 2 hours, probably could have cut it down to 1.5 if we had battery powered screw driver. We like the fact that spacing is close enough to provide protection yet open enough to provide open view. It was meant to keep my 3 year old pitbull from going upstairs. Putting it together and mounting it took less than an hour and was probably the easiest part. Now, The durability on the other hand is an entirely different matter. We had no problems with our Pitbull climbing fences/gates before but this one is apparently very easy for any medium to large dog to climb over. With that being said, If your dog decides to climb it, be ready for the paint and wood to get absolutely destroyed. And Forget about mounting this gate into drywall or if your house is old enough, sheet rock.
