Any standard 26/6 should suffice. Sorry it took so long to reply. Life in upheaval at the moment. **Q: Can this stapler take standard generic staples or do I need to buy Swingline own staples?** A: hello, generic staples provided they are the right size will do. It has never been a challenge to replace the staples on this very lovely stapler. I would recommend getting this and being very protective of it as it will last you a lifetime. **Q: After having this stapler for a while, do you still recommend it?** A: If you do a lot of repetitive stapling, as I often do, then a stapler that doesn't do its thing properly quickly gets to you. In my case that results in rapid and violent destruction. This one has survived, and yes, that's no doubt largely because I paid for this one myself rather than accept another cheap one from my employers. What I HAVE come to realise is that the quality of the staples makes a big difference. The cheap things that my firm buy buckle and contort under the slightest of pressure. So I'd recommend trying decent stapes first, if you can.
