I didn't find the product very useful as a feeding mat so it disappeared into the cabinet until a few months ago. Don't get me wrong: it is not a bad placemat and I could see how it might be useful for this purpose for some people. I personally found it annoying to clean food items off of it since it is large and floppy and doesn't easily fit into a dishwasher. I decided I'd rather just wipe down the table.Having said all that, we now use this item whenever my daughter draws which is many times a day so it gets a ton of use. It keeps the paper from sliding around on the table. For awhile I was taping the paper to the table. Then, in what felt like a stroke of genius, I pulled this out of the cabinet. It worked great! No more sliding paper. No more tape. It is perfect for this use.So, while I am not using this the way I thought I would, I am very glad I purchased it because it found a different use and has been very helpful. I now just keep it on my coffee table with paper and washable crayons around for my toddler to use whenever she wants. She gets to be independent and I don't have to deal with frustration over sliding paper or even think about that problem anymore. We being the highly intelligent parents that we are (insert eye roll...) bought a new table when our little one was just a few months old featuring lots of “character” - aka a bazillion unreachable spots for food and liquid to get trapped in. We figured our little guy would be in a high chair for quite some time, but COVID changed our family operations and I found myself staying home with my toddler and also taking care of a younger niece, making the transition for our toddler to the big table happen quicker than we had originally planned. This mat made this possible! I love how easy it is to clean (I normally just wipe it down with a washcloth but also sometimes take it to the sink for those extreme messy meals). It does not suction, but that wasn’t our goal. We wanted a placemat that would catch most/all milk spilled from an open cup that he was starting to learn. Fun teacher tip - I use permanent markers to decorate the mat for holidays and also added a circle and square at the top to teach him where to place his cup. Toddlers like options so he gets to put his cup in his circle or his square. The permanent marker comes off easily which is nice for the seasonal drawings but I do have to redo the shapes quite often (my toddler does not view this as a bad thing, though, as he gets to pick the 2 colors each time). It's amazing. Having a silicone tray for my paint means I don't have to use those throwaway palette papers, and it's' easier to clean than the hard plastic, wood, or plexi palettes.It also rolls up and I can toss it in my travel paint bag and it pops out just fine later.Clean up is eash. If I have time, I just let the paint harden, and it just peals right off after, but if I am in a hurry I wash the palette as normal. Unlike the white plastic palette I was using before, though, this doesn't stick. It just comes right off.This is more environmentally conscious for me as a palette because the peal and toss palette papers always bothered me because I don't like waste when I can avoid it.
