I used a 1 1/4" hole saw. Might be able to get away with something slightly smaller like 1 1/8 but worked great with that size hole. Installed it into a 1" thick wooden dash board and was able to get the back nut on just fine.Tested its power draw. With nothing connected to it, it was drawing 10ma will on, and my multimeter showed nothing when it was off. My meter only goes down to 10 ma so its possible its drawing something, but to little for my meter to measure.Tested my phone plugged into it, according to my battery app the phone was pulling in 1706ma (1.7amps) which charged my phone from just about dead to around 50% in under an hour. I didn't have 2 cables handy so didn't get a chance to test it with 2 phones simultaneously but if its capable of delivering that kind of power on both ports simultaneously like it says then this thing is great. It will be very popular on our multi day camping trips in the future. I'll probably be installing a 2nd one on the drivers side of the boat when I get a chance.Really liked it had the connectors and fuse all wired up and ready to go. The round terminal plugs fit great on my boats buss bar. Also looks very nice while lit and the rubber gasket seems to be secure I don't think water will get inside it. Either way my boat is an open top bow rider and it will inevitably get caught out in a rain storm at some point. I'll know for sure thenI will update my review if I find an issue with it down the line but so far this thing appears to be great value for the money. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Perfect fit for my needs ***UPDATED FOR UPGRADED*** *by J***E on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on February 10, 2020* I did with this what I do in all new to me vehicles...update the accessory power port to a USB charging port. All you need to do is remove the factory power port, install this USB charging port, and in most cases, the existing wires hook up without need to alter.Now I have high speed charging for my car, without having to push the plug back in as I drive. This can also be used with some better retracting charging wires, so when you unplug, you can automatically reel in the cords, so they aren't in the way for the next time you get in.***UPDATED FOR UPGRADE***I purchased the newer, upgraded port with switch. It, too, works perfectly. The switch is great for those that wired into an unswitched circuit, like I did on my second vehicle.Bear in mind that the device is larger than the hole for traditional power ports or cig lighters, which is where many mount them. The hole will need enlarged to 1-1/8" diameter to fit the body. Harbor Freight sells a cheap step drill bit that can easily handle the job in plastics and thins metals. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ No more cord dangling from my dash! *by K***C on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on January 6, 2020* Installed this in my vintage car so I would no longer need to use the cigarette lighter port to charge my phone and eliminate having a cord dangling from my dash. I installed it inside my console compartment so it's out of sight and the blue light does not interfere with looks of my classic dash. Installation was easy. I just tapped into an existing fuse using a fuse tap and ran the wire from there to the unit. I grounded it to an existing ground screw right underneath the compartment. I easily removed the cover that came with it since it is concealed and protected inside the compartment. Now I have a place to stow my phone and charge it at the same time.
