Philips HTB5544D/F7 Home Theater with Tall Boy Speakers (Black)

I was skeptical to buy it because it only had one review, but now that i have it, only took a couple days extra to deliver to japan. (I'm in the navy.) It was really easy to setup, all you need is a screwdriver to put together the tall speakers, they look really good. the subwoofer provides a good amount of bass, the center speaker isnt the best, but the two tall speakers more than make up for it because they sound EXCELLENT! the rear speakers are not wireless, they get the job done for being rear speakers. They actually sound better than most rear speakers in more expensive home theater systems. Netflix , Pandora, youtube, and vudu(for some odd reason) come pre installed. You can plug your hard drive in if you have some .mkv, .avi, .mp4 etc.... videos that you want to play. So far i've played 20 movies and all of them work. Only complaint is that i can't fix it so its widescreen on some of the files that need to be letterboxed. (black bars at top and bottom) Also with no usb 3.0 when a hard drive is plugged in the interface runs a little slower than when its plugged straight into my tv. Thats just getting nit picky though.The interface itself is pretty good, easy to navigate. When you have an xbox or ps3/4 plugged in however, you cannot change the sound settings. they just don't come up on the screen. But i tested the sound beforehand while watching a movie on my hard drive. It can also access photos from your phone or ipad/iphone through bluetooth, when you might want to put up photos on your tv or share them. they can be uploaded on the picassa app.Overall this is a GREAT home theater system for those that want good clear sound that sounds like its MUCH more expensive, and looks really good. . i give it a 9/10.

I really like Philips products. And this one offers a lot for the money. It just does not meet my audiophile standards. For example, Beethovan's 9th did not sound close to what I am used to. On the other hand, watching a movie with it, the sound was rich and worth the cost of the system. It was very much better than regular TV/video sound with that desirable substantial sound.I had researched all the specs, but what I did not learn until I received the item is that the speaker wires are very thin... and they are hardwired to the system, so I could not replace them. Philips does provide a lot of wire for the 2 rear speakers; they did not skimp. However, the quality of the wire was lacking.There are so many great source options, and this was part of my reason for buying the system. The menu for the most part is attractive and easy to use; however, to get to the Aux, FM radio, and other capabilities, you have to go to the last option in the Source list (I can't remember the name of it) and then look for multiple options under this source (right arrow to see list?).Also, when you get the system, you might think it is broken, because you click on the remote and nothing happens. You have to do the setup routine first before you get to use it the way you want. The written material that comes with the system is not very helpful for these matters that I am writing about.I ended up returning the system because it did not meet my needs.

I was quite excited by this product but I have to say it turned out to be a fiasco. The product began to fail in 3 months. I bought this to go with an Xbox One and to produce a surround sound experience after seeing a store display of a much more expensive product. I liked this product as the receiver was small compared to other products and it was quite affordable. After installation I cannot say I was ever very impressed by the sound it offered, but it was a slight improvement over the TV speakers and set up was easy without permanent changes in the room. The software interface was a bit slow compared to the other bluray, Roku, smart TV players in my home, so this was a bit of a disappointment, but it was simple to use. Sadly just after 90 days it began to fail. At first it would simply turn off by itself. This was at first once a week, then every few days. Then it started to go silent. The picture was fine, but no sound. Unfortunately turning it off and on did not fix this issue. I finally decided to remove this mistake from my system as the headaches were not worth the only slight improvement in sound.

Great Entertainment system regardless of the cost. Sounds awesome. Some what User friendly but need know how electronics connect and wire them correctly so that your TV, Verizon DVR and other electronics are channeled through the Philips receiver.2 HDMI connection was enough, but I don't have game systems that require HDMI and my Wii goes through the TV.A SINGLE MAJOR issue I found is with the hand control.The control is so small even I who has natural 20/20 perfect vision had a hard time reading them. The letters, numbers and option list on the controller are so, so, so ever small and greyish that became a nightmare trying to setup and configure the unit. Maybe Philips can modify and enlarge the control with larger text.

Bought this about 3 weeks ago and it is okay. The price was right and it performs all functions as stated in the spec sheets. The menu/display layout is a little weird, but not to hard to get the function you desire to operate as it should. HDMI inputs are good. It wouldn't accept my xbox 360 once, but turned it off and turned it back on and it took the signal fine (I hope this was a one time glitch). WI-FI connections to and from work good as well. Assembly of speakers and speaker connections was simple. the sound quality is pretty good too.

Very happy with the sound & overall quality & look. Easy set up. Would recommend for the price to anyone

I had another Home Theater before. Cables to front speakers of this one are way too short if you want to connect it to a projector instead of a TV and Philips does not provide extension cables. Explicit instructions for connecting to a projector are missing. Quality of sound is so far ambiguous, but maybe that I have to change more settings..

Es un teatro en casa muy bonito y el sonido es genial,se aprecia y se disfruta bastante la musica. El unico inconveniente es que la interfas del reproductor es vieja y es algo lenta pero si tu televisor es smart tv eso ya no es un problema.

Es un equipo que tiene una buena apariencia y buenos acabados. El display y la interfaz en la pantalla lucen un poco antiguos pero la calidad del sonido y del video con el cable HDMI son maravillosos.Es perfecto para una habitación de dimensiones regulares. Los altavoces altos son desacoplables de sus extensiones y bases, lo que te permite colocarlos en espacios más reducidos o discretos.Todos los altavoces son colgables a muro aunque no se incluye kit de instalación (totnillos o taquetes).La instalación es muy sencilla.El receptor de Wi-Fi es más limitado que el de un teléfono inteligente, por lo que se sugiere asegurar que el módem esté cerca del equipo.Buena relación costo-beneficio.

El procesador del BlueRay es muy muy lento, tarda años en abrir el Netflix, así que mejor compre una televisión Smart TV y solucione el problema de la lentitud. El sonido es muy muy bueno y los productos son de calidad.
