Review: Mighty fine drain--looks great and works better - Plumbing is usually a four-letter word for me. Every time I install something it takes at least three trips to Home Depot. This may give some perspective for this very favorable review. When first I opened the package I thought there was an error. The assembly seemed much too big for a standard bathroom sink--seemed more like bathtub size. It was indeed larger than the dinky drain that wasn't working right. Turns out, size matters. 1. It actually fit the bathroom sink drain opening perfectly. 2. Easy install. Very nice gaskets. No plumbers putty needed. 3. Tight and leak-free on the first try. (Gotta love that!) 4. Pop-up and pop-down work flawlessly. 5. The actual drain opening has larger area than the previous fitting. It drains fast. 6. The pop-up easily unscrews by hand, from the top, for VERY EASY drain cleaning. Personally I have very little hair on my head so it always seemed incongruous that I was cleaning bathroom sink drains with lots of long hair. Must be the three females who share my home. Thus, #5 and #6 are very important for the future. Would I buy this drain fitting again? YES. I'll be replacing the drain in another bathroom this week. Great product. Review: No More Stinky Drain! - I was looking for a new pop-up drain assembly when I came across this item. What I like most about this item is the push button actuation, and the overflow is an open style that allows the water to flow down through it. Most pop-up drain assemblies have the holes in the side of the pipe for overflow purposes, but most of the time these just end up collecting a bunch of gunk inside of the overflow holes and start to get that mildewed smell (as was the case with the pop-up drain that I replaced with this one), where I do not see this one having that issue. This drain assembly is very sturdy and has a very nice finish. Time will tell, but it looks and feels as though this drain assembly will last a long time. Assembly was very easy and I was able to use just the seals that came with this part. I have read that some people have had issues with leaks, so have some plumbers putty set aside just in case the included seals don't work for your application. Doesn't look like they are included from the photo** A: This comes with evrything needed to install. Mine came with the nut and extension that slips into the lower existing pipe. **Q: Is there a hair catcher that is compatible with this drain? I had to clean mine out today, and it was a bit of a process.** A: There isn't one that I could find that works with the unique stopper this drain uses. If you don't use the stopper on a regular basis you can simply use any strainer trap that fits it. You do need to use a shallow one though, as the threaded cross piece the stopper threads into isn't very far down in the opening. I found some small stainless steel ones that just drop in and fit well on Amazon. Not expensive, either.
