## Description

desertcart.com Originally manufactured for American troops fighting in World War II, this KA-BAR full-size hunting knife sports a leather handle and a 7-inch straight-edge blade made with 1095 cro-van steel. The knife features a U.S. Marine Corp. stamp and was made in the United States. Also included is a leather sheath made in Mexico. Specifications:Weight: 0.70 pounds Blade length: 7 inches Overall length: 11 7/8 inches Shape: Clip Stamp: USMC Edge angle: 20 degrees Steel: 1095 Cro-Van Grind: Flat Handle material: Leather How KA-BAR Knives Are Made Making a quality KA-BAR product requires the talent of experienced craftspeople performing dozens of processes with precision and skill. Each knife undergoes specific manufacturing processes to ensure corrosion resistance, strength, edge-holding ability, and an out-of-the-box, razor-sharp cutting edge. Some of these manufacturing processes are highlighted below. Blanking: Using a 100-ton blanking press, KA-BAR can blank out nearly 9,000 blades in one full day of operation. Tang Stamping: Tang stamping is often used to identify a product's manufacturer, the country in which the product was made, and an item number. Heat Treating: To begin the three-step heat-treat process of stainless-steel blades, KA-BAR first runs the blades through a 70-foot conveyor oven that takes approximately one hour to cycle. Cryogenic Quenching: The second step in a three-phrase heat-treat process, KA-BAR cryogenically freezes its stainless-steel blades to -120 degrees F to optimize blade performance. Tempering: Tempering stainless-steel blades for approximately seven hours in a walk-in oven enhances steel toughness. KA-BAR is well known for its three-phase heat-treat process in which tempering is the last step. Grinding: KA-BAR knives feature flat- or hollow-ground blades. Flat grinds are best for jobs in which there will be great lateral stress. Hollow grinds provide a fine, extremely sharp edge that is perfect for more delicate tasks. Leather Handle Compression: KA-BAR's famous oval-shaped leather handle construction is accomplished by compressing leather washers onto the tang, shaping and coloring them, and then fastening them on with a pinned-on butt cap. Cap/Pin Assembly: The butt cap or pommel is attached to the handle of a knife with a steel pin. The pin is inserted into the butt cap, driven part way through the tang, then ground off and painted. Inspection: Each KA-BAR knife is subject to a multiple-step inspection process before being released for shipping. Manufacturer's Warranty KA-BAR Knives warrants, to the original purchaser of the knife only, that this knife will be free from defects in material and craftsmanship under normal use and maintenance for the lifetime of the original purchaser. This limited warranty does not apply to any failure of, defect in, or damage to the knife caused by normal wear and tear or by improper use, including throwing the knife or using the blades as a can opener, chisel, pry bar, screwdriver, or digging tool or for any heavy work for which the knife was not designed. If the knife fails to satisfy this limited warranty, the company will repair or replace the knife or substitute a knife of comparable value, at the company's option. Review: KA-BAR I could literally kill a bear - To read a complete review go to [...] Just received my new KA-BAR USMC Fighting Knife in the mail a day early might I add. I felt like a kid on christmas I was so excited. I should have added gift wrap option just for the extra excitement. Once I opened the box my jaw hit the floor and my eyes started tearing up. It is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen next to my fiance. Now down to business. Knife came razor sharp out of the box with a fine point tip(I dropped the knife and the point grazed my shin and the point poked my shin right thru my jeans and sliced my shin and blood streamed down, I couldn't believe how sharp it was). I also shaved a patch of arm hair off with a single stroke. The coating on the blade is amazing no blemishes at all, feels smooth to the touch and you can tell this blade will last for years to come with no rusting. The USMC stamp is great. I feel honored to be using a knife that some of the greatest warriors on gods geeen earth made famous. Leather washer handle fits my hand great and feels good too. Even though I live in the Greater NW and the Kraton handle would probably have been more practicable for wet weather climates, I just had to stick with the Original handle. I feel that this will last years to come if taken care of properly. The sheath is great also. Even though it was made in Mexico it is still extremely sturdy, and great stitching. The leather is a lot thicker then I anticipated. The Marine logo is nicely stamped in the leather and once again I feel proud to wear it. Overall the sheath is really nice and sturdy. I cant get over how thick the leather is. The leather is a little stiff so I applied a couple applications of Saddle Soap and boy did it make all the difference. The sheath is super soft and it also helped remove/hide some of the creases in the leather, and it also brought out a nice dark brown hue in the leather. Overall I give this five stars and would recommend this to anyone who needs a sturdy fixed blade fighting/survival knife, it will last you a life time if used/stored properly. I feel like a total BA just holding this knife. I also plan on buying one for my Marine Brother-in-law with the Operation Iraqi Freedom commemorative for Veterans Day. The prices desertcart has makes it affordable to give as a gift or to just buy one or two or even three just to have. I will also be purchasing the Ka-Bar Short USMC Fighting Knife with the Tanto Tip. I can't wait to pass this knife down to my Son when he comes of age and then see him pass it to my Grandson when he comes of age. What is also nice is you can have the blade engraved without ruining the blade or finish. This is going to make a great family heirloom for years to come. Thank you Ka-Bar and desertcart!!!
Review: Well-Crafted and Genuine - First, I had been considering buying one of these for years. I'm coming at it primarily from a historical interest mindset, as well as that of a knife enthusiast. I finally decided to get myself one of these incredible blades and do not regret it for a moment. I fell in love with this knife as soon as I took it out of the box. I feel badly for some other reviewers who must have received either lemons or cheap knock-offs as the knife I got was absolutely genuine. It is razor-sharp right out of the box. I tested it out on the padded mailer it arrived in and sliced it clean through with almost no effort. The knife is heavy but wonderfully balanced and feels great in even my small hands. The blade is stamped with "Ka-Bar Olean, NY" on one side and "USMC" on the other. The USMC leather sheath it came with seems a little bit small as when I tried to slip the knife into it for the first time, it left small marks on the belt loop but this is a minor issue, especially considering the sheaths are only around $10 here on desertcart. You can see those marks if you look closely at my photos. I looked at what others have said regarding care for this knife and I coated the blade with a very thin layer of gun oil to keep it from corroding and treated the sheath with a beeswax-based leather conditioner I used with another leather knife sheath. The latter is mainly to keep it from drying out. I have only had it for a day or so, so time will tell if this works, though I think both will be fine. (If the blade looks a bit "shiny" in the photos, that is due to the gun oil I had just applied). I have little doubt that this knife will last forever and can stand up to far worse than any use or abuse it will ever see with me. One last note...a good way to make sure your knife is a genuine Ka-Bar is to look for the globe and anchor USMC hologram sticker on the box, of which I included a photo. There are a lot of fakes out there!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: is it made in the U.S.**
A: I have purchased one through another outlet. The knife is made in the U.S. The leather sheath is made in Mexico.

**Q: Are all Ka-Bar's stamped with USMC? Having never served I would not feel right purchasing one with a logo. It would be disrespectful in my eyes.**
A: I am an Air Force veteran but feel no sense of disrespect for enjoying owning a famous and classic knife. My first Ka-Bar was purchased by my father in an Army-Navy store in Boston in 1945 for the magnificent sum of $0.50 and I now carry one in the emergency kits in each of my vehicles (at much higher prices obviously)!

**Q: Is this a full tang knife? Meaning, does the blade goes all the way through the handle? Thanks!**
A: by definition this is considered a full tang knife, meaning the tang extends the full length of the handle. some people are describing it as a rat tail but that isn't correct as a rat tail tang is large and round at on end and narrows down at the end. The tank of this knife remains the same throughout. The tang is the size it is because of balance and utility. These knives are made to the exact standards as they were during WWII. If it was good enough for the Marines to use in combat, digging trenches, opening crates and containers, then it should be good enough for anyone.

**Q: does it come with a sheath? cause I see a sheath bundle option for some reason.....**
A: Yes. They need to pull that sheath bundle option down. It comes with a very nice Mexican-made sheath. Mexican sheaths are known for the highest hide quality, thickness, craftsmanship. You'll see.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Knife That Makes My Camping Gear Look Embarrassed
*by S***E on November 14, 2025*

I have been using pocket knives and smaller tactical folders for years, but this KA-BAR stands in a league of its own. I bought the straight edge version three months ago, mainly for heavy-duty field work on my rural property—tasks such as batoning medium-sized firewood and clearing tough, overgrown thorny brush that mocked my machete. This knife not only cuts; it confidently dominates any task at hand. The renowned stacked leather handle offers an excellent, non-slip grip even when wet, and the 1095 Cro-Van steel maintains an edge much better than anticipated for a knife designed for rugged use rather than delicate slicing. It’s a legendary tool for a reason, merging history with pure utility. Regarding value for money, it’s an incredible bargain. Many custom knives with similar steel and construction would cost three to five times more. You are acquiring a piece of history and a tool that will outlast you. It sets the standard by which all other fixed blades are measured, making it an essential addition for any serious outdoorsman or collector.
