It has a very strong smell of urine. The next time he needed to go out, I put him on a leach and took him straight to the Pee Post and gave him his normal command to “go potty”. He smelled it, lifted his leg, and peed on it. I then gave him praise saying “good boy, go pee pee on the tree!” I then brought him back in the house to get him a treat all while repeating the new command “good boy, go pee pee on the tree!” For the next three days I kept him on a leach when letting him out and gave the new command, “go pee pee on the tree”. After 3 days I began letting him out without a leach but pointed to the tree while still giving him the new command. It has been 3 weeks now. He has had a few times where he started peeing on the grass but I just gave him a strong “NO” command and repeated the new command. I would say he is about 90% retrained at this point proving you can teach an old dog new tricks! It hits the sweet spot where it’s cheap enough that if it doesn’t work- oh well. Also more of a pain to return than just tossing in trash. We adopted a Rottweiler/Australian Cattle dog mix. Incredible / wonderful dog. Only “issue” is he will not go to the bathroom within 100 yards of my house (live in city). Most of the time it’s fine - we both could use a good walk. However, some days I’m in a hurry or not feeling well. We have a small fenced yard, and I really want him to just go in the yard. He refuses. He loves marking his territory around the hood, so took a chance that this product would tempt him to go in the yard. He sniffed it once but it didn’t cause him to want to mark over it, and he’s never sniffed again. Same story as all the reviews. Oh well, figured it was a bust, but worth the shot in hopes it would help my dog go at our house. He still will not!
