I have arthritis, especially bad in the thumbs, and if that weren't enough I have trigger thumb. I don't understand some of the 'this doesn't work' reviews. I'm weaker than probably 95% of people AND with arthritis, and this has been the best thing ever! Happened to break my arm the month after I bought this and it has become invaluable! I can not recommend this item enough. It is so easy that it was actually shocking when I first got it home. Everything from a bottle of water to a 4" diameter lid. Super easy even though many things for me are prohibitive with no strength and arthritis, and now the damaged arm/hand. **Q: One answer said the wide end was 4.5" wide. But can a 3.75" dill pickle jar lid fit far enough in to the opener to grip it and facilitate opening it?** A: No. This opener only works well on lids under 3". **Q: Does it open something as small as a half-litre pop bottle?** A: Yes works for all sizes of jars and bottles. **Q: Is this supposed to have teeth on both sides or just one?** A: I have an old - 10 or so years? - OXO, and it has teeth only on one side. Only the teeth are metal - there is a non-serrated slim insert on the other side. Love it! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works pretty well but be careful how you use it. *by M***N on March 17, 2025* I bought this Oxo opener as a temporary assist with opening jars after an injury, but I think I'm going to keep it. As with most Oxo kitchen products, it is a well-constructed tool and it comes with a handy rubber pad that adds grip to the bottom of jars you want to open. However, but it can be a bit awkward to twist this tool with one hand while holding a larger sized jar in the other. There is potential for things to go sideways if you put a lot of pressure on either item. Additionally, the tool has metal teeth on one side in order to really get a grip on lids so if the tool slips so there is a chance you could come in contact with those teeth. Having said that, if you don't go ham and just take your time with the first jar or three [until you've worked out the ergonomics], you should be fine. This opener works best for me when I put a jar on the rubber pad, then pull the tool with my left hand while gripping the jar with my right hand [easier to pull than to push!] Your results may vary. If you have an injury, a bit of arthritis or you just and need a little help with your grip, I'd recommend this tool.
