It does take a bit of practice and depends on your hair type also. Do read the instructions, they are a bit brief so youtube videos might help. Need to take smaller sections of hair. ADDITIONAL: when unplugged setting is gone and every time you use settings have to be redone, also now having used the iron small sections need to be used or unit tangles and finding this device is becoming bulky to use, think long straight hair and not layered hair is probable a better idea.
