Think they're pretty cheap, just cardboard with a slick coating. They'd be better if they had "curbs" on three sides, as the pieces slide off pretty easily if the tray is tipped. I think it's fine to have at least one side without a "curb" because it's good to be able to slide off pieces which have already been put together.
