Since I am of average size, medium can sometimes be somewhat tight, and then a large can sometimes still be too loose. But selecting the right size Rothco M-65 VINTAGE field jacket was easy to figure out.What the other reviewers say about the sizing for these jackets having a tendency to be too big is accurate because the jacket is intended to be used with an inside liner installed. But the jacket is not sold with a liner, which must be ordered in addition to the jacket. Buying the jacket in your size without a liner, then the jacket will probably feel too big. Since I always try to wear a medium, I ordered a medium, and then I also ordered a liner for it. Without the liner, the medium looks and feels big on me. However, with the liner installed, at least it doesn't feel too big, and the insulation takes up the extra space, and I'm sure this jacket will do exactly as I expect of it when the winter temps begin to drop way below freezing.But, I also ordered one of these vintage jackets in small, without a liner, and it still fits my medium frame perfectly. I do not intend to be putting a liner in this jacket because a liner will then make the jacket too small for me. So when they say to buy a size smaller, that is only if you don't intend to use a liner in the jacket. BTW these jackets are somewhat heavy and well insulated without a liner. My locale doesn't get a lot of snow and the temps for most of the winter will not drop more than a few degrees below freezing, so this jacket without the liner will probably be just fine for all but the very coldest months of the winter -- which is exactly why I bought the other jacket -- with a liner.Along with several different brands of this very popular M-65 design, there are also different materials used for these jackets from Rothco. So if you want an all-cotton M-65 then select the VINTAGE model. If the Rothco M-65 doesn't say vintage, then it uses a poly-cotton blend. To provide even more confusion, there are also LIGHTWEIGHT VINTAGE M-65 field jackets that are all-cotton, but the storm flap and pockets all have buttons instead of snaps. And also, the lightweight jacket is not intended to be used with a liner. Pricing for all of them is about the same, so be careful about just exactly which one you are selecting to put in your cart. I would suggest spending a little time researching whats available to help make the best choice for one of these wonderful classics. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Jacket - Just like 'nam *by A***A on May 13, 2012* I served during Vietnam and this jacket is "deja vu" but my body isn't. I'm currently 5'10" 220lbs, rounded shoulders, thick through chest (and now through the middle). On a sliding scale from mesomorph to endomorph I've always fallen between the two but closer to endomorph. I ordered both a medium and a large jacket based on the sizing comments in other reviews. If I was at my optimum weight of 185 - 190lbs the medium would be an excellent fit (I plan to get back there so I'm keeping the medium). The medium still fits but at my current weight it looks like a fat guy wearing a jacket that's a tad small. The large fits great! So, if you are built like me (~5'10" and packing 30 extra lbs) the large jacket will work well for you.The jacket is well made. The zipper could keep a gorilla in its cage and the material used in its construction is heavy. An elevated seat would not have been as helpful and would have been a cleaning nightmare. This set of rails were super simple to set up, only requiring a few screws, and they are the perfect height for me---- and I'm 5'-9.5". The top rail has very comfortable foam padding and they are very sturdy. From outside edges they measure 26" wide by 22" deep by 27" tall but are not adjustable. I lucked out and they fit my space and me to a tee.
