I personally conducted testing to determine whether it could in fact do so. The results were somewhat disappointing with a standard-sized garden hose (1" diameter and 50-foot length), and a PGA regulation golf ball. However, results were more favorable when using a Nerf brand golf ball, and a six-inch long stretch of 4-inch diameter PVC ventilation hose. Now, if you seriously want to know whether this device works as advertised, I would say definitely yes. I am using it 24x7 to cool a TiVo Bolt whose design makes it tend to run very hot, and it has reduced the operating temperature significantly. **Q: is there a way to turn the lights off? while fans still run.** A: You can easily turn off the lights on the arrows (I've got my laptop on the pad as I write this, with the arrows off.) You cannot turn off the lights on the fans without turning off the fans. The lights indicate which fans are on. I am trying to figure out if there is an easy way to disconnect the LEDs on the fans. **Q: why is this having 2 USB ports???** A: I found that the use of my second usb port on the fan came into use after the first one wore itself out after about 2 years of use... so it could be a back up too. I run a usb hub of 4 to my laptop and then i run the plug in from the fan to the hub and use the other 3 hubs for whatever; wireless mouse, charging, ect. **Q: I use my laptop on the couch, this doesn't look like it would sit on a lap well.I could strap it to my broken cooling pad? TY puppy for chewing cord.** A: I have an older version of this product and have been able to use it on my lap without any serious issues.
