It keeps the camera off of surfaces when the phone is face up, and keeps the screen off of surfaces when face down. I included a picture of the front, as the lip is extremely short. I don't think this will protect against a fall on concrete. But, the short lip allows me to use the edge screen with no issues. I love the Aurora Borealis glitter! It's embedded in the plastic, so it's not moving like one of those squishy liquid covers. I'm going to keep this case for casual use.
