Comb Binds are made of plastic that is able to retain its memory.... it returns to its circular or oval shape after the comb binding process is finished. This is needed for the comb to bind around the punched book. During the binding process, the individual comb binding fingers are opened by the comb spreader. These plastic binding fingers then fit into the punched (19 rectangular) holes on an 11" sheet of paper. As the paper is placed over the fingers, the plastic is closed around the punched paper, thus creating the bind.
