However, I've come up with the best way to wash hats without shrinking them, or having the shape get out of whack. I've been researching and trying different methods to clean my hats for a long time.From washing machine, to dishwasher, to hand cleaning, all using those plastic hat forms. The washing machine and dishwasher clean them well, but at the expense of the shape, and a lack of water temperature control causing occasional shrinkage. I've determined the best way to clean them is filling a large pasta pot full of lukewarm water, add about a tablespoon of washing machine detergent--I prefer something with no dye or scent--then swish around to make sudsy. Take your PreTreat laundry spray and spray the hat well in its entirety. Let sit a couple minutes then submerge the hat in the pot so its covered. Sometimes upside down works best. Let sit for 3 hours. Remove, rinse with lukewarm water, then put into this style plastic hat frame and hang so the bills faces the ground and let dry. This has worked excellent for me; keeping shape and removing tons of dirt. You'll see it in the pot when you empty it. *Caveat-I've tried this method on three different baseball style hats with three different thread types with no issues. The team hats can get pretty dirty and we needed a better solution to washing them in the washer with the uniform because it would come out misshapen .
