I assume if you throw them into the crawl space they would work fine. **Q: how big of area does one pouch cover?** A: To be honest I'm not sure. We use a couple boxes in our 37' 5th Wheel when it goes in storage for the winter. It must work because for 3 years we have not had an infestation of mice. A couple boxes is probably overkill but better than the alternative. **Q: does this work for rats?** A: I enlisted this product for mice and a rat is also in the rodent family. A repellant is a repellant. You may want to increase the application for the size differential of the rodent but in my estimation this is not an inexpensive treatment option. You will have to consider the area you are protecting ad determine if this is the best option for you. The smell is pleasant for humans. Traps might be the way to go and use this option as a future repellent. I have learned that mice can carry the product away from their favorite nesting area so take care in the placement of the product. I had $3800+ in damage to my car that was totally infested. Do all you can keeping your family's safety in mind. **Q: Would this work taped beneath car hood to keep mice from eating soy-based electrical wiring in car?** A: Well I had not thought about trying that but I do have a truck sitting in my yard that I put one in the cab and sat the other one on the breather...no mice. I honestly have not taped one up anywhere but I do believe that would work as the smell comes from the bag no matter where you put it. Just don't tape the whole bag with tape, maybe use Gorilla glue in place of the tape? A bit high priced but so worth it. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Better than paying for mouse damage ... *by K***S on January 31, 2016* They make the car smell pretty nice, but I don't truly know how well they are keeping the mice away (though I am still hopeful, after several hundred dollars worth of mouse damage to two cars). It's like having a heavy-duty pine tree car freshener in your car, I guess. After about a week of rather strong pine/balsam-like scent, the intensity decreases significantly. I'm not sure they last a month, but they are pretty strong smelling and the scent is better than moth balls. As much as I like these, I have four vehicles (and several other areas ... like a shed, garage, and attic space) where I have been using these. A one month replacement recommendation can result in costs adding up pretty quickly. Still, it's got to be better than $200 - $300 repair costs for mouse damage.
