Not suitable for even home owner use. Might not last through first use. Incredably bad product. **Q: What is the chuck size?** A: The largest shank that can be inserted into this chuck is 1/2". Makita calls it a 3/4" drill because with a step-down drill bit, they claim you can drill a 3/4" hole in concrete. This drill is no different than any other 1/2" drill. If this was an American branded drill, it would be called a 1/2" drill. **Q: About the speed, it has a big switch for low/high speed, Does it have another speed selector? Thanks** A: I bought several different drills about the same time. I burned them all up trying to core drill 5 2 1/2" holes. I believe it was variable speed in the trigger as well as high and low range. My Dewalt 18v ended up doing the best job. Shrill, loud and I thought that was the sound of working tool. This Makita changes everything, at least for slow to catch up me. This drill sounds like a jet, or rather the jet sound of the coolest machine you ever saw in a movie, quiet and controlled. I was using 1/2" drill bit into wet 6x6 pressure treated posts for rebars. This Makita changed what I expect from tools for performance and noise. ### ⭐ Burned out after 5 minutes (twice) *by B***A on October 31, 2019* I bought this drill expecting it would last for many years if it was looked after. I was very wrong. After 5 minutes of medium duty mixing of mortar, the drill started smoking and very quickly failed. At first I thought that maybe I had a dud, so returned it for a replacement. A new drill was shipped out very quickly and again, after 5 minutes of medium load running, the second one burned out as well.It is a real chore for me to get to a UPS store to return this because the store is quite a few miles from home. Maybe I should just buy my tools from the local hardware store and forget about buying from Amazon. This is by far the crappiest product I have bought in a long time. I will read the reviews more carefully if I ever buy another power tool from Amazon...I have always liked Makita products and have been using them for over 30 years. This model is a dud. There is no way that Makita does NOT know this, but they continue to sell it anyway. If they knew how much damage that does to their brand reputation, they would pull this model from the shelves and dump them.
