The bristles are thick and hold onto whatever I'm brushing, melted butter, barbecue sauce, garlic oil, etc., and distribute it beautifully. Looks like I'll save the rectangular brush for actual pastry and brushing crumbs off cakes before frosting, and use this for pretty much everything else. The only negative is that a few bristles have already fallen out, so I'm keeping on eye on that. But the bristles do tend to come out onto the food.
