The fabric is mid-weight and hangs beautifully and the waist is somewhat empire, but I like that because it covers my problem mid section very well and is very flattering to my figure. I usually wear a size 14, and I'm 5'6". The XL fits me perfectly! The length on me is about 4" below the knee.
