Any sideways force would buckle the lifting arm, and it's a small jack so the base requires an absolutely level surface for stability. Still, if it had worked as advertised I probably would've kept it. However, out of the box it only lifted about 3" (to 8" overall) I thought it was me, after all it's a floor jack. Not much in the way of controls--just make sure the valve's closed and pump the handle. Yet even after following all directions included for ensuring no air in the hydraulics it would only lift about 5 inches, and that grudgingly.
