I am petite (5'2", 100 pounds) and it fits comfortably in my hands, although it did not specifically say "compact" on the packaging. I am left-handing, so I love that the numbering runs in both directions...no more trying to read upside-down and backwards! Also, it has a built-in pencil sharpener and an erasable area on front of tape to write down your measurements. Originally ordered it as a gift for my fiance and I liked his so much, I ordered one for myself. We are planning on ordering more for holiday giving. **Q: What is the stand out/reach on this tape. Other word how far can u extend out without it touching anything before it the tape breaks over?** A: I would say about 2-3 feet then it just bends. I returned mine for this reason. I recommend looking at a diff brand. Solid build without being bulky, and the left/right markings are way more useful than I expected. Measuring from either side is fast and easy. I HATED counting fraction lines or even trying to see them now that I am older. I am not a daily carpenter - just a woman who thinks she can build a few things.The blade has a 96-inch standout, stays rigid, and retracts smoothly without snapping back. The built-in pencil sharpener and notepad sound gimmicky but are actually more handy than I had realized it would be.Bottom line: smart design, accurate, and clearly made by people who use tools. The sharp contrast between white tape and the tick marks / numbers makes quick measurements a breeze.The side panel comes in handy when you need to mark down a measurement that you will need for later. However, I have found that these measurements can be accidentally wiped away after a few more outs of use.The onboard pencil sharpener is quality and always gives a sharp point and the belt clip is easy to use and stays securely on your side.Standout on the tape is not the best but all the aforementioned traits far outweigh that for my uses.
