The most importan part of planting these plants is to make sure you have at least 30% sand mixed into the soil. I also include a link for detailed instructions or just call. - Asparagus plants need three things: 1. Any soil but at least 30% sand needs to be added and mixed well. The sand is the most important part and without it they will die: the soil needs to be well draining and 30 percent sand needs to be mixed thoroughly and plant on a mound six inches apart. I will send a picture 2. The plant can soak in water for an hour and then plant. 3.Plant the asparagus plants 10" to 12" down the further north the deeper and 12" apart and just bury them - The sand is important and a minimuim of 30% for drainage and winterization of the plant and with out them they can rot and not come back the next year. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B071JS7K8J | | Best Sellers Rank | #92,800 in Patio, Lawn & Garden ( See Top 100 in Patio, Lawn & Garden ) #1,084 in Vegetable Plants & Seeds | | Brand Name | Hand Picked Nursery | | Customer Reviews | 4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars (481) | | Expected Blooming Period | Winter | | Expected Planting Period | Winter | | Indoor Outdoor Usage | Indoor | | Manufacturer | Hand Picked Nursery | | Material Features | Heirloom | | Moisture Needs | Moderate Watering | | Number of Pieces | 25 | | Other Special Features of the Product | Heirloom | | Plant or Animal Product Type | Asparagus | | Product Care Instructions | Water | | Soil Type | Sandy Soil | | Sunlight Exposure | Full Sun | | UPC | 741432507261 | | Unit Count | 25 Count | ## Product Details - **Brand:** Hand Picked Nursery - **Expected Blooming Period:** Winter - **Expected Planting Period:** Winter - **Indoor/Outdoor Usage:** Indoor - **Material Feature:** Heirloom - **Product Care Instructions:** Water - **Soil Type:** Sandy Soil - **Special Feature:** Heirloom - **Sunlight Exposure:** Full Sun - **Unit Count:** 25 Count ## Images ![Mary Washington 25 Live Asparagus Bare Root Plants -2yr-Crowns from Hand Picked Nursery - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71A2clLi4xL.jpg) ## Questions & Answers **Q: Why are they shipping with china post??? i thought i was buying from a farmer in washington!** A: Same thing happened to me! I’d NEVER have purchased ANYTHING from CHINA! I thought I was purchasing from a US Veteran. Sickening!! **Q: Do you harvest the first year or let it go to seed** A: You should not harvest the first year and maybe even the second depending on how well the stalks look. Do not cut skinny stalks even in the second year. Letting them go to seed will give you a beautiful bed for many years. **Q: I live in the nc piedmont, is it too late to plant crowns now (10/04/19)? the raised beds are ready to plant.** A: Not sure, but I would think because they are buried at least 12" plus some mulch on a raised bed they should be fine.I live in Vermont and planted last spring crowns were up in a week!(in raised bed). **Q: Can these be grown in a raised garden bed?** A: i am growing mine in raised bed. their roots are quite extensive . you may have overflow in a couple of years ## Frequently Bought Together - Mary Washington 25 Live Asparagus Bare Root Plants -2yr-Crowns from Hand Picked Nursery - Purple Passion Asparagus 25 Roots - Male Dominate - Heirloom/No GMOs - Jersey-Knight 10 Live asparagus bare root plants -2yr-crowns from Hand Picked Nursery --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.com.ar/products/106273496-mary-washington-25-live-asparagus-bare-root-plants-2yr-crowns](https://www.desertcart.com.ar/products/106273496-mary-washington-25-live-asparagus-bare-root-plants-2yr-crowns) --- *Product available on Desertcart Argentina* *Store origin: AR* *Last updated: 2026-10-09*
