You do get greasy (from the old one and the grease you need to lube this new one). The only tools needed are a small crescent wrench to unscrew the small black cover and needle nose pliers to pull it off. You WILL need a second person for the process. Once the cover is off, grab the old antenna and turn on the ignition while pulling hard to yank out the old antenna. NOTE: notice which way the "teeth" of the old mast are facing; forward or backward, as these "teeth" have to catch on the antenna motor (inside the trunk wall). With the car on, feed the new antenna down the hole toward the motor. Have the 2nd person turn the car off. This will trigger the motor to pull the antenna down and reel it in. This process worked the very first time I tried!! I turned the car off and on a few more times just to test it out. Total fix time= 15 min. for a 45 yr old mom and 15 yr old daughter to start the car. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ... on a Volvo S40 I was skeptical about how easy this would be to install *by L***L on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on December 9, 2014* After reading the reviews here and looking at You Tube videos on how to install this antenna mast on a Volvo S40 I was skeptical about how easy this would be to install, or if it would work at all. Ordered this from Amazon at 7:10 PM on a Sunday with free Prime delivery and received it Monday around noon (Wow). It really was as easy to install as the instructions said.No need to even open the trunk just unscrew the nut at the bottom of the mast, have someone turn on the radio while you pull out the mast, make sure the plastic cable on the old unit is as long as the new one, transfer the nut removed from the old mast to he new mast, insert the cable into the open hole, have someone turn off the radio while feeding the cable. Then just tighten the nut and you are through - about 10 to 15 minutes in total. The antenna is about 1/2 inch short. This antenna goes up and down perfect, but when it goes down it goes a little deeper down.
