Granted, the pad is bigger than the cup of the jack, it is stable when it is pressed between the jack and the vehicle. The groove is deep enough to allow the side jack point to fit in the pad, but not so deep that it deforms the pad because of excess height when raising a vehicle. Plus the non skid top makes it great for front jacking points that lift the front lower cross member of a car.
