But Dunbabin has the edge in terms of breadth of coverage. Pappalardo and Ciardello focus chiefly on the mythological, figural and animal representations in the mosaics of the major sites of Italy, Sicily, Greece, Antioch, Tunisia and Constantinople. But they pay scant attention to the mosaics of the Iberian Peninsula, France, Germany and Britain where there was a bias towards complex geometric patterns.
