The best food chopper we have found.
This is a very useful kitchen tool. The product is as represented. No significant assembly is required. Just put the lid in place and chop away. We use it to chop, onions bell peppers, and most any other food items that lends itself to chopper use. The chopper comes with two size blades to permit small or larger square cuts, and includes a fork-like tool for cleaning food particles from the chopper blades. The blades are metal and sharp. Other than the metal blades, the tool parts are made of heavy plastic. The Chop Wizard is easy to clean after use. There are three main components: a lid, blades, and collection bin. We have used a tool of this kind for years. The Vidalia Chop Wizard is the best we have found.

Vidalia Chop Wizard, Vegetable and Fruit Chopper
I believe I purchased my first Vidalia Chop Wizard in the 1990's. Last week a piece of plastic finally broke off. I was in a panic. Fortunately, I found a new one on Amazon. This is one thing I use for cooking that I just can't be without. Slicing onions or any other veggies and fruits is a breeze with the Vidalia Chop Wizard. Cleaning is easy too. I just put it on the top rack of my dishwasher. A must have for any cook!

Hard to clean, they should include a tiny scrub brush that fits in the grid in lid
Nice chopper easy to use. The only thing I would say they could improve is the food that gets stuck in the lid because of the tiny grid pattern kind of hard to clean.

Until something better comes along....
I've gone through several of these, and I have good news and bad news to report. First the good news - these things are great time-savers in the kitchen. I use them to chop all kinds of vegetables - carrots, onions, parsnips, fennel, celery - you name it and this thing chops it. The two blades that are included allow you to make "big bits or little bits" as you prefer. Tasks that would have taken 5-15 minutes can be done in a few seconds. The only thing you have to be careful of is this - avoid overloading it. Don't, for example, try to chop whole onions without cutting them in half first. The reason why will become obvious in the next paragraph. Now the bad news. This thing is a bit more fragile than it should be. The first one I bought worked fine for a while, and then the blades started coming loose. I finally threw it out for fear that one of them would fall out of the plastic frame and end up in my food. But I liked the way it worked and so I bought another one. After a while the plastic bin (where the chopped food goes) developed a little crack. Every time I used it the crack got a bit bigger. Finally, it broke in much the same way that a cracked windshield in a car will eventually break in two. I wondered if I was doing something wrong? I had been cleaning my chop wizards in the dishwasher, and I wondered if this could be the problem; the hot water in a dishwasher does make plastic brittle. And so I bought a third chopper, and after a while that one broke in the same way. So - let's cut to the chase. I don't like the fact that these things seem to have a shelf life of only six months or so (assuming that you're using them nearly every day, as I do). When they *do* work they are lifesavers. But they aren't the most durable knives in the shop. The reason I keep buying them is the fact that they only cost about $20; I can justify spending that much to get another half-a-year's worth of chopped vegetables before I need to air out my wallet and spend another double-sawbuck. The bottom line is: I'd be willing to pay more if somebody were to make something like this out of stainless steel instead of plastic. I'd love to have something like this in my knife drawer that I thought would last for several years instead of several months. But until that product comes along, this one will do.

Works like a Charm!
I have been putting off ordering this for a couple of years. I finally got around to ordering it and I have to say that it is an amazing product. I've used it about a dozen times over the last 2 weeks to chop large batches of carrots, onions & celery for chicken soup that I'm canning and it operates flawlessly. I highly recommend it.

A comparison
Other reviewers have done a good job of explaining the use and features of this chopper. Having experienced the relative merits of two different brands of choppers, I want to focus on the comparisons between these two, the Vidalia Chop Wizard and the Progressive Prepworks GP-4000 chopper. The Vidalia Wizard was the first manual chopper I owned. I loved that tool, and used it almost every day. The worst thing was always having to get it out of the dishwasher and rinse it off so I could use it for the next meal. My daughter loved it too, and it was pressed into service for chopping large batches of veggies for canned salsa. We even used it at a family reunion to make a huge batch of fresh salsa. Well. as my husband would comment occasionally, the chopper was not designed for commercial use, and eventually it broke at the hinges. I lived without a chopper for awhile, but I found that I was spoiled. When I spied a chopper called the Progressive that came with not two but THREE cutter grids, a side-cutter, and its own plastic storage case, I bought it and gleefully brought it home to begin chopping. Now the Progressive chopper looks good. It has a sturdier appearance than the Vidalia, and I really liked the idea of that extra slicer grid. But, sadly, when it comes to chopping, I found this chopper lacking. The reason is not mysterious. The Vidalia Wizard has MUCH sharper blades. Of course it will cut your vegetables and other foods more easily. I have particularly weak hands, so this may not be as important to you as it is to me, but everyone in my family who used both choppers noticed the difference. What happened at my house is that after awhile I no longer bothered to pull out the Progressive chopper. The old fashioned knife was almost as easy to use, if not as quick, and certainly easier to wash up. I have just received a new Vidalia Chop Wizard, and I'm back in the business of chopping large amounts of veggies with ease and efficiency. I could wish it had a slicer grid, and a neat plastic box to store the unit in, but what I really want in a chopper is...a chopper! And with the Vidalia Chop Wizard, that's what I've got.

The box container below the chopper cracked while chopping a simple small onion. This is not acceptable. However upon contacting the seller, they immediately despatched a new replacement container and the product is delivering good performance with chopping.
