Review from cholesterol expert
I am a Stanford trained internist, a lipidologist (cholesterol expert), and hypertension specialist.........and these guys have it 100% correct. As a cholesterol expert, I figured out years ago that LDL cholesterol is meaningless and that all of the other markers of inflammation (CRP, LpPLA2, myeloperoxidase, and others) and monitoring INSULIN levels are where it is at when it comes to increasing healthspan and preventing chronic diseases. The book is well designed and will appeal to those interested in a coating of science or those interested in a heavier dose. The recipes are great. The most important message and one that may take time to sink in, but is 100% correct, is that sugar is a long-term toxin for all of us, NOT fat. Fat is meant to be our primary fuel......and for my patients, it has become the fuel.....and my practice has lost 1000's of lbs and seen more family milestones than the doc next door who still tells his patients to eat less and move more. I highly endorse the book and I have NO agenda.

Lose the Lousy, Gain Your Health!
Ivor Cummins and Jeffry Gerber have written a book that is both rigorous enough to satisfy the science-minded and approachable enough to nourish those who just want to know what to eat and why!In the first section (Chapters 1-5), the authors debunk the “bad scientific methods, groupthink, and hubris [that] have created a modern monster” – the carbohydrate laden, low-fat diet, which promised us better health but instead marched lockstep with increases in obesity, diabetes, and other metabolic conditions. After exposing the flawed dietary advice of the last half-century, the authors identify and explore the root causes of our modern maladies and form the rationale for their “Eat Rich, Live Long” program.Part 2 of the book provides the “nuts and bolts” of how to implement their ideas into everyday life and features enticing, beautifully photographed recipes by master chef, Ryan Turner (author of “Boundless”). Instead of a “one size fits all” formula, their Master Class (Chapter 6) helps you personalize a plan that will work for you, based on how your insulin system functions. The final section of the book delves deeper into the scientific underpinnings of the program, but that does not mean it’s dry or difficult to read! Explanations are clear and humor is sprinkled liberally through the book. I consider Chapter 10 to be the lynchpin, eloquently detailing the role of insulin in health and weight, while Chapter 11 exposes the truth about the role of fats in one’s diet and body and explodes the misguided cholesterol hypothesis. The appendices are full of helpful resources and the bibliography alone is worth the price of the book! It’s heartening to see the research on which this book is built and exciting to see the future direction of scientific inquiry in the field. As a nurse and clinical therapist (RN, LCSW) who assists people in changing their lives, as a Type 2 Diabetic who is totally diet-controlled and at ideal body weight, as the sister of a brother whose cardiologist “never sees people turn things around like this after a heart attack,” I see the results a Low Carbohydrate High Fat way of living all around me.My recommendations for this book?Read it, apply it, ENJOY it. (And don’t let the cover fool you – it’s not a cookbook, although it does showcase delicious food)Give copies to people you especially care about – and their doctors, too!Pressure healthcare providers AND policy makers to read and act on it.Regain your health!

Great Book with Life Changing Information
Excellent book full of great information about getting healthy. After following Ivor and Jeff over the past 8 months, I was anxiously awaiting this book. Highly recommended. The more I study and learn about the human machine the more I am thankful for the Engineer that created the universe and its finely-tuned, complex creatures like us. Fascinating.I have been eating low carb (LCHF) since 5/2017 and starting in December modified my diet and started eating an LCHF ketogenic diet. Surprisingly, I had a CABGx4 in 10/2016. I was active and had just completed a number 100 plus mile bike rides that summer. Too bad I didn't discover this diet sooner. I learned the hard way that you can't exercise your way out of a bad diet. In May 2017, my cardiologist started talking about insulin resistance and pre-diabetes. At that time, I had never heard of insulin resistance. After a little research, I discovered LCHF and the Diet Doctor website which lead me to Ivor, Jeff and many other LCHF experts. This diet has reversed my pre-diabetes and my glucose and insulin are now in a normal range without drugs. My weight dropped by about 12-14 pounds within a month or so of starting the diet and has remained stable. The food is truly wonderful and, once new habits are developed, eating this way is easy.

A Factual VERIFIED Keto 'how to' book
Well, I have a YT channel with 3000+ subbies, and I have talked about this book and the recipes since I received my copy (overnight BTW).You need look no further for the collective knowledge of Ivor and Dr Gerber for keto (done right) information. You will not be disappointed. I love the recipes. Tonight is the Incredible Keto Pizza! I have FatHead every Saturday night, so this will be a new version. Their YT videos have helped me, always, but this book is just a keeper. I read it daily and can't stress it's worth the cost. There is so much misinformation out about Keto, today, turn HERE for the facts. Thank you....

In my Top 3 books!
I’m a Keto Coach and have read several books, but this one would be my top recommendation as it’s very well-written, includes in-depth details about Low Carb and Ketogenic Living, great recipes and clear insights into the truth of Cholesterol, Hyperinsulinaemia and the significance of CAC scanning. If one book can be a game changer, then this one may actually be a Life saver.

Eye opener
Fantastic. Will completely change your views on food and completely debunk the low fat diet. It turns out we have been misled for decades which has resulted in obesity rates skyrocketing with the poor health that goes along with it. Been following the plan for ten weeks, lost 14 lbs without hunger and feel great sleeping better too. Buy this book and apply it,it will change your life

This is the best book I have read
I have read extensively on the subject of the high carb or high fat diet controversy. This is the best book I have read. Everybody should read this book. If everyone did read this book I believe it would reduce levels of disease significantly. I believe that this book, for a trivial price, has the power to transform your future.

I am now carb free!!!!
Very interesting, packed with information. The recipes are ok, but you have to filter out all the Americanisms, eg measuring everything in 'cups' and the odd peculiar ingredient. But the basic premise, keto, is solid.

Extremely interesting
The scientific explanations are extremely interesting and well described. However, one down-side is that the practical recipes etc. are not very easy to follow, unless everyone in the family is following the same routine. It will cost a fortune to follow the regime if you do it on your own. In addition, I think this book is aimed at the US market as many of the recipe measurements are in US scales or there are no amounts at all. Still, all this aside, a must read for anyone who wants to cut out / reduce carb intake - doing so is fantastic!

Meal plans for non Americans unrealistic
There is no doubt that the advice in this book can be a lifesaver if followed and one that is of immediate use to me.What disheartened me though, was having accepted the need to go on a high fat, low carb diet and anxious to go for it were the meal plans.Presumably written by their gourmet chef. The daily meal plan recipes are plainly for the American market.Example. Day 2: Breakfast 'Bacon, Gruyere & Red Pepper Egg Muffins'Lunch: 'Taco salad: A bed of chopped or torn lettuce topped with 4 ounces ground beef (grass-fed,80% lean), browned and seasoned with taco seasoning, along with ½ cup diced onions. ⅓ cup diced bell peppers, 1 cup diced tomatoes, 1 cup shredded full-fat cheese and about a tablespoon each of sliced scallions and sliced olives. You can dress this salad with sour cream and a squeeze of half lime over it for further flavour.'Dinner: ' Squid "Pasta" with pan seared Cod, Chorizo & Spinach"Stopgap snack or treat: No Churn Avocado & Salted Pistachio Ice Cream.I appreciate that the American way is different but how realistic are such recipes? How much time do Americans have to spend searching out these items in their supermarket? The book has opened my eyes and I have started on my low carb journey. It has also given me the links to other sources of information i.e. Youtube etc. and I hope that can help me with easily made simple meals, with foodstuffs easily obtained and available in the UK.

You deserve to buy this book for yourself and your loved ones
Get this book. Follow Ivor’s YouTube channel and educate yourself about how a diet high in carbs negatively affects your health and how you can reverse it. High quality product.I felt that some of the recipes were too complicated. I would have much preferred simple easy recipes with basic ingredients.

Too MUCH INFO for just an introduction to a keto way of eating
I thought I'd taken a good deal of time, and reading before I made the choice to buy this book to study and implement a keto diet. If you are able to absorb & enjoy facts and figures given in a scientific way it may be helpful, I cannot, & do not. I like to dip in and out of such self-help books but this is not possible as the index is frankly, ridiculous!! Virtually non-existant!! I think it's been put together and published in a great hurry with NO editorial help or regard for everyday useI am extremely irritated to have chosen a WRONG for me text book.

Compulsory reading
Ivor Cummins is an expert in the field. Very comprehensive review of the benefits of a HFLC diet. Recipes good but theory and text are where this book's strength lies. Definitely compulsory reading for those interested in the science and theory of ketosis and low carbohydrate diets.

Great Book, well balanced
Great Book, it is well balanced with plenty of science if you want to get into it, but its laid out in a way so you can read the lay man stuff to get the general message and check out the recipes without getting too heavy into it. but if your like me and want all the detail its all there.

A revelation in healthy eating based on fact and data
An informed, passionate and witty explanation of why the 'conventional' advice to eat a high carb diet is failing and what can be done.Igor and Jerry have done a great job to explain the science in layman's terms so anyone can grasp the important messages and know what steps they can take to improve their health.Instead of ignoring possible challenges to their ideas, they have addressed them head-on with fact and data based on robust scientific studies that have been repeated by independent researchers i.e. good science. And all this strong science and education has been made to sparkle with Ivor's fabulous humour. That makes this book a joy to read.
