Parts lists are inadequte
Parts lists do not have part numbers nor text descriptions, so you're left to count pegs and guess colors on the often muddy pictures of the parts. Parts lists downloaded from the publisher's website are the same. That's a shame, because many of the designs look fun to build. But unless you already own an extensive collection of Legos, and have it well-organized, ordering the bricks for these models is really tedious.

nice modular book
It's a 200-page 20cm-square softback book, so a bit different to other No Starch LEGO books, but its shape and size does suit the contents, and in particular the instructions, well. The first half of the book contains six chapters which cover the foundations of constructing modular buildings: The 'Cafe Corner' standard -- a useful reference on what exactly the modular building standard is: where the connection points go, how the sidewalk/pavement should be constructed, how high and deep the building should be and so on The design process -- how to decide what you're going to build and in what colours Bricks everywhere -- how to look at real buildings and 'see' them as LEGO parts The details -- how to construct windows, columns, cornices, lights, benches and so on The interior -- how to build internal details for houses and commercial buildings Gallery -- photos of the author's buildings, provided for inspirationIt contains some great practical advice, in the form of photos of parts of buildings re-imagined in LEGO, ideas and inspiration for constructing aspects that they all need, such as windows, and also instructions for stand-alone models such as park benches, street lamps, beds, recliners and so on.

this is a great little lego book
this is a great little lego book. the included instructions for all the various custom buildings make the book well worth the $15 price tag. Gives step by step instructions with tons of pictures for creating buildings and also has instructions for furniture and city accessories to outfit your lego city. would def. recommend this book to any lego enthusiast, especially anyone just starting out who wants to learn HOW these types of buildings are put together. book may not have much to offer for a hardcore lego collector, but it was just perfect for me. Happy I bought it.I bought the paperback version and its reasonably well constructed. I don't regret the decision, but as much as I like the book, I wish I would have opted for a hardback copy.

A must have book for the custom Lego builder!
I really like this book! I just got the book today and have already read it cover to cover. I’m very impressed overall and will be using it for reference when experimenting with my own custom Lego builds.I’m biased towards this type of a Lego book because it’s oriented towards folks who like the Architecture and Creator sets and would like to create their own custom builds but could use some ideas on how to add those little details that really make your sets stand out.About 1/3rd of the way through the book, you’ll see a custom Chili’s restaurant. I’d purchased those designs from the authors and built the set last summer. The set sits on a shelf at my house and gets as many compliments as my purchased Lego sets do. It’s nice to see their other creative work in this book. This isn’t one of those books filled with giant, complex Lego builds that the average user never has the time or brick collection to build. I love those books too, but this book is one that I’ll have splayed open on the dining room table this weekend playing around with the step-by-step designs they’ve included in their book. Highly recommended!

Lego just got a lot more interesting
Great book for adults or kids. My 9 year old LOVES Lego and has built many of the big sets including the Death Star. We picked up this book as a way of providing some direction for building without buying more and more sets. Some really cool ideas in here and both my sons have been using it to provide new ideas for building. I have even paged through it a few times myself and was blown away by some of the creativity displayed. Lego Masters at work here for sure. Good book but you have to provide the pieces or there is a place online you can order the pieces you are missing build some of these creations.

80 pages of gold - 120 of bricks...
A picture is worth 1,000 words - full of great pictures and instructions for everyday items from street lights to furniture, this is a great reference for those wanting to get into building LEGO modular structures. You can start building modular buildings right from the start, with Chapter 1 explaining how to use the Cafe Corner Standard, and then look at the details and interiors as the book goes on.The chapter on design process also provided me with some good insight on how to use technology (google street-view is truly wonderful for this) to generate ideas. My only real issue is that the book really ends about 1/3 of the way through, with 2/3 of the book then lent to step by step instructions for building a modular townhouse (albeit with some good tips on using SNOT techniques to provide three different facades) and chemist.I would much rather have had more detail on micro-modular techniques with the last 120 pages reduced to links to free instructions on the authors' website.

5 star book of ideas and modular designing.
Amazing idea book. I Recommend for Lego fanatics like myself. Very professional, and gives insight into modular building. (Being able to design and move entire room sections on the fly). Nice interior designs such as desks, chairs, dressers with detail, not just plain basic designs. If the creator sees this I would like more books like this in my Lego collection. Chillies restaurant!!! you are a master builder.

📖 ➕ 💡= 🏡 (oh yeah, LEGOs)
Exactly as described contrary to several reviews😁. I have bought the ENTIRE Lego Winter Village and have thoroughly enjoyed building and playing with them and the grandkids of course😄, for several years and we're ready to make the grown-up leap into designing our own. This book is all we needed to get us going, well that and 40 years and lots of kids worth of Legos👵.

Fantastic lego book
Brilliant. If you're looking for step by step instructions for houses, apartment buildings, shops and even interior items like beds and kitchens this is great. It's not hard back but it's lovely and glossy with colour pictures and lasts of parts needed for each build. My son will get hours of fun out of this. I'm glad I bought it!

A must purchase for any Lego hobbiest
An excellent book to teach you modular build techniques as well as architectural design solutions. Whilst the instructions can seem small at the back, without making this book massively thick you couldn't really do much better. I keep coming back to it for ideas and solutions.

Great book, very informative and easy to follow.
Great book for everyone. Very informative without getting bogged down in too much detail. Pictures are great. I got book 2 for my Christmas and can't wait for book 3 if there is one to follow.

Changed the way I build
Not only did this book provide me with instructions for several modular builds, but gave me additional build ideas for furnishings. After using this book, I felt the confidence to build my own creations, no longer am I tied to whatever lego produce, I can now build from scratch and learn new techniques for Mods. I always keep this book close to hand for reference.

Good for Lego builders....as long as you have bricks
Good book if you have the bricks to build the designs, if you don't have much Lego it's not the book for you, good read though
