Cook The Week in 2 Hours: Batch cook a whole week's meals to save time and money

Game changer!
I read about this book and it appealed. Not knowing what to eat each evening and then failing to have the correct ingredients has meant mealtimes have become increasingly stressful. The kids were eating an decreasing variety of foods as I relied on quick fall backs too often. When it arrived, I have to admit, the food itself wasn't the kind of thing I'd normally cook and somethings, I'd actively avoid in a different recipe book (hello stuffed tomatoes, I'm looking at you). But it was worth a try so I got the ingredients (half the price of my usual weekly shop and loads of in season veggies), set aside 2 hours, and got prepping. This bit was fine, fun even, and the fridge looked amazing stacked with tupperware! But how would it taste?? I have to say, delicious! Even the stuffed tomatoes. The kids have eaten courgettes and not complained. I've completed one week and each meal has been good, plentiful, leftovers for the next day too We even had unexpected guests one day but just cooked the next days meal too so there was enough for us all.The best bit is knowing what you are going to eat, knowing it's going to take 15mins or less each eve to make, knowing that it's pretty healthy. I'm converted, and telling anyone who'll listen how great this book is.

disappointed
not actually what I was expecting. the recipes are too complicated and it takes a lot of time to finish them every day, instead of "meals being ready" as the whole purpose is.the book was in good condition tho.

A game changer!
This book is easy to follow, has delicious recipes and worked much better for us than traditional batch cooking, it's got good variety, it's cost effective and it's taken all the thinking out of it. A few pointers from what we've learned. We are two so the meals last is a little longer/more servings, I would say this is a 2.5 - 3 hour process rather than a 2 hour one (although it's probably quicker once you're familiar with each recipe) and for me, some of the menus lack vegetables so I would add some in.

First impressions
I have just got this book and will be attempting one of the weekly menus this week. The layout and information in it though is great and very clear and simple.I can literally take a pic of the shopping lists on my phone and off I go. Most ingredients are the usually shop brought stuff, although some we wouldn't usually buy. It's a big book with a lot of menus split by seasons so it really doesn't sell you short. Only criticism..... That isn't really a criticism as you can't cater for everyone.... But looking through the menus, I am struggling to find ones that will be eaten by all my lot over the week BUT that said, some of them do have suggestions of swaps, main ham to Turkey. I am sure I can work out some others with a bit of organisation too e.g we don't eat much beef. I love salmon and cod too but doesn't always go down well with the rest of the family although I shall be tellinf them to suck it up and eat as this idea of meal prepping on one day sounds great (but something I really struggle to come up on my own so very hopeful with this book!)The menus have 5 meals and 2 'starters'..... I am most likely going to use the starters for lunch where possible but we will see as I go through it.All in all looks like a great book just might need a bit adapting to suit each family but fab starter.

Great idea but no flexibility in the set menus.
Really excellent concept, well laid out and good photos and clear instructions , however, the menus are too rigid. If you have fussy eaters or are avoiding a particular ingredient the book becomes useless as the ingredients are listed for the whole weeks menu and not per individual dish. This means that you have no way of knowing what ingredients to substitute. A simple solution would be to individually list for each dish also. I was looking forward to receiving this but I’m really disappointed and a little annoyed at the lack of flexibility it offers. Hope this helps others.

I found an error in the middle of batch cooking!!!!
Whatever you do dont add 1400ml double cream to the quiche it never sets!! but now i cant make the bread loaf as it says use the remaining cream but i cant beacuse the recipe wanted 1400ml for the quiche 200 for gazpacho and the shopping list said to buy 800ml so i am already over done on my quota of cream so i have no idea how much i need to use for the loaf which is supposed to be tonights tea :( Summer Menu number 4 if anyone can help :)

Great buy
We love this book! Excellent introduction to some foods we don’t normally think of, and it’s so quick and easy to have dinners prepared for the whole week. Saves us time and money! Highly recommended.
