Check your needs before buying
These are nice but too bright for model train use. Should have ordered regular bulbs. Also, the wires need more length for most everything. Just be aware.

How to use these to show direction of a model train in a section of track:
I have hooked these up to the DC power supply for the track. Thus, when the voltage is turned on to move the train forward, they light. As LEDs only light when the polarity is from the anode (red+) to the cathode (negative-) they won't light when the power direction is reversed. This isn't an issue for AC power, but to indicate direction for a DC train it is. While with resistors you can adapt one LED to light no matter the direction, I use a different approach as they can be as small as 3mm. I simply put two together in my track light channel and wire one to the other backwards. Thus the red from one is soldered to the black on the other and together they are wired to the DC track power. You will get a light no matter the track direction (polarity). Choosing to use different color LEDs, one color can indicate forward and one color reverse :) This is a simple effective cheap and easy way to show power and direction on a control board using single LEDs.
