This book explores how a boy copes with the sudden death of his mother. The fears and rigid rules that form his life give way as he shares experiences with a friend. It is both humorous and heartfelt. I recommend this novel

I'm actually not a huge Jerry Spinelli fan but my students love his books. We're going to use this book in 5th grade for our unit on overcoming obstacles. I think the kids will enjoy it.

Jerry Spinelli understands troubled kids so well. Most of us have forgotten what it was like to be a kid. Jerry can remind us. Anybody who has any affection for children will find a lot of joy and satisfaction out of this or any other of his books.
