The last hat I bought had a floppy bill and was somewhat useless and looked stupid on windy days. So I went for this hat because hats with solid tops help me overheat too much, so I need venting. This hat's brim*** is solid and won't go anywhere in the wind, and once you get the right size (Despite following sizing directions, I had to get a medium instead of a small... ) it fits snug as can be and works great. I have even received a few compliments on the look. Now i got it for when it's warm out because I do overheat easily. But I was a bit concerned with the weather turned cold (for the one day of the year it did here in CA), but all I did was wrap an appropriately colored skull cap over the top and that took care of the chill. (Army green goes nice with this color). All in all, I'm pretty happy and bought two.***My only real issue is that the brim, is NOT 3", but just over 2" wide, which, when all is said and done, was not my best choice to nab, but it does the trick and has the mesh, so I stuck with it. But had I caught the references to the brim in the reviews or questions sections, I might have skipped on buying... twice. Yeah, yeah... I know... but still. 3" would have been perfect.

I love this hat so much that I bought a second one as a back-up in case I ever lose my first one, and then I bought a third one in a different color. This is the best hat I have ever owned. It seems to really suit the shape of my hear/face/jaw well and I find that people nod to me and say hello to me more and treat me more politely when I'm wearing this hat. It manages to add style without looking like you're trying to be a cowboy or have some kind of statement you're trying to make. I like that it is just cloth and mesh, not some fancy leather thing -- this hat is functional and cool.

Great style, nice fit, just what I wanted! This ugly old fat dude is gonna look great on our next cruise! I had measured my head and the measurement fell into Large on the chart, so I ordered the Hiker hat in Large. Wow, WAY too big! Returned and went to order a Medium but second-guessed my style choice and went with the Safari hat. It fit nicely, the brim was cool, but the crown looked wrong (too tall? too large?). Returned that and ordered the Hiker hat in medium. Success! Fits and looks great and will shield my neck, ears and face from the sun (but will avoid the dreaded 'hot head') when my wife and I continue to travel again. Need to note here that all 3 hats were in a flimsy plastic bag and came out looking like discards from a homeless camp! The other reviews prepared me for this and after 15 minutes with a clothing steamer, the brim flattened out and the creases in the crown went away. I realize that a 30 buck hat is not going to come in a 2 hundred dollar box and the hat is supposed to be 'crushable', but going thru the mail in a plastic bag is WAY more abuse than it's going to get in a suitcase. Bottom line, I love it and like most things in life worth having, it took a little effort to achieve.

Just got the hat. Have a trip coming up that warranted something nicer than a ball cap which is my usual wear. Review so far would be awesome hat. Khaki color is true to the picture. Bought the XL and it fit right on. My head measurement is 24.5” which implies 7 3/4 to 7 7/8 hat size. XL fits just right. Quality looks great. I read reviews carefully and wanted to submit one for this. If it work like it should by keeping my head cooler and sun off my neck, then it is a great hat.

I have worn a Henshel hat for years and love it. It has been through countless miles of hikes, rain, sun and wind and is finally worn out.I bought this one as a replacement.Unfortunately, it does not have the chin string that keeps the hat from flying off in high winds so I bought the wrong one (you really want the chin string if you're hiking in windy conditions).Nice hat if you're just hanging around a non-windy park...

I read reviews on this hat before I ordered it. Nearly everyone said the hat ran slightly big. I have a different Henschel hat and it fits perfectly, but it has a normal crown. The low crown on this Henschel Hiker hat might prevent it from sliding down far enough to get that snug fit. Since these hat are sold in sizes S, M, L, XL instead of fitted sizes, I expected variances between hats so I planned on putting a 1/8 inch thick by 1/2 inch wide strip of self-adhesive foam from a crafts store on the inside between the crown and the sweatband if it ran slightly large. When I received it, it was very slighlty large as reviewers said so I installed the foam and it fits pefectly. Plus the foam strip is hidden. The great construction quality, looks and price of this Henschel hat is worth the small effort I spent makiing a slight adjustmemt to make it fit like a fitted hat. I truly like this hat and it's made in the USA. Buy it!

I wear a lot of hats - literally. For decades, I've been buying a couple of straw hats each summer but they never last long, especially if I get caught in the rain or they happen to fall into the creek while I'm fishing. With this hat, the problem is solved. It truly is crushable with excellent shape retention. Since it isn't made of cheap material, it should last for many summers too come. The color is just a slight shade lighter than how it looks on my screen, but I like that even better! It is a cool, comfortable wearing hat. The large did run a touch larger than I'd expected, but nothing that some simple foam, newspaper, or sizing in the back of the headband won't fix. The medium definately would have been too small. I normally wear a 7 1/4 to 7 3/8.

Good quality for the money. Wound up sending it back because the crown looks different in hand than it did on the website.

no strap but did the job

Suggest getting a chin strap as the wind can take hold of it. I got the Akubra strap and works well.

Good look and feel. Packed in luggage and wore in pool. Playing with grand kids in pool with no damage. Time will tell how it holds up over time. Going on vacation in a couple on months and will up date.

This hat is even better than the picture. Lightweight, great mesh and fits XL exactly. I would buy again!

Despite me ordering a size larger than I needed I found that the top portion of the hat rested on the top of my bald head causing irritation. In other words the top part of the hat needs more depth.
