More Like New Than Renewed!
This was a replacement for my venerable Yamaha AV receiver that bit the dust a couple weeks ago. I was looking for a comparable receiver while not spending a lot. This renewed receiver looked like a great solution at a reasonable price. Fortunately, it was! I've had occasional disappointments with renewed items but those have been rare. In this case, the Sony AV Receiver was indistinguishable from a brand-new item. All the packaging was intact, and the manuals and accessories were included. The set-up was easy. It helped that I was connecting to a Sony TV with a HDMI ARC port. The Sony TV immediately recognized the Sony receiver and the on-screen set-up display worked perfectly. After a couple weeks of using the TV's internal speakers (yuck!!!), I have my home theater back, making me a happy camper.

still new in box
Only reason the system didn't get 5 stars was it didn't include an FM antenna; which might be why it sold as renewed. Everything was in the original factory wrap; none of it had been opened. No damage, not even to the (original) box.I am making the first component system I've put together since the 1980s; back then I had a Sansui receiver and AR floor speakers. Today I'm replacing a cheap home theater 5.1 surround system. Paired the receiver with Klipsch bookshelf R41M speakers -- sound is already awesome. Subwoofer and floor speakers will be added soon, as my budget allows. Surprised a bit by the weight of the system; moving and weight (and frequent moves) were why I set aside my older components. But, since I am settled, time for better sound.

The King of the Budget A/V Receivers
It's hard to beat Sony for just about anything regarding budget (not low-end or cheap) audio products. I am not made of money (I know, shocker!) so when I look into something as substantial as audio equipment, and in this case an amp or receiver, I'm looking for value as well as quality because I'm going to be keeping it for a long time. The STR-DH590 is replacing a 30-year old analog Technics A/V receiver with surround capabilities that has served me well for all of those years on the audio side. But like I mentioned, it's analog only. No optical or coaxial digital ports and certainly no HDMI inputs or built-in DAC (because, why would it?)With my entry into streaming audio to go along with my records and CDs collection that I still listen and add to every so often, and with a TV that has HDMI-eARC capabilities and video streaming from Roku, I figured I should probably move into more modern times and that meant new receiver. Yes, I had been using a DAC with HDMI input (SMSL PS-100) and it performed really well because that's what SMSL does. But I needed something better and so I bought a refurbished DH590.I've had it for a couple of months now and it performs and sounds sweet. I only recently figured out how to "unlock" HDMI-eARC to my bluray player and that's because the manual that comes with it kind of lacks in the how-to department. But surround capabilites are there; there are Right AND Left subwoofer outputs which allows me to beef up both two-channel speakers and make the music soar that much more; it has multiple music and movie settings depending upon how you like your sound; but it does NOT have a phono input. This kind of stuck me as a negative at first but you can find inexpensive and good phono pre-amps for turntables that don't have one built-in and just run the RCA line-out to one of the many line-in stations on DH590. Problem solved.I could go on but you've gone on to another review by now so I will wrap this up by saying buy it if you're needing a capable, powerful, well-built receiver and anything that costs more than a car payment is out of the question. By the way, I'm still employing an external DAC with the DH590 but only using it with my Wiim Mini streamer because it's an SMSL SU-1 and it sounds so good coming through the Sony. They're a good pairing.

Nice unit, works great!
This is not a top of the line unit and as refurbished unit, I often go into it with skepticism. My old Sony receiver (15-20+ years old) served me well but it blew out. It was 90 watts per channel. This has a little more power. Once I got it synced, it works great. It was in excellent shape out of the box and I am very happy with it.

Incredable qualtity.
Sound quality is amazing. Connects to all my devices. I'm running 2 om speakers with no problem. sound is clear and complete. Bass is full and clear.

Stopped working after three months
As several other reviews stated, the receiver stopped working after a few months of light use. Light turns green when turned on but quickly clicks to red with nothing ever showing on the display. Super frustrating, will not be buying Amazon “renewed” items again in the future. Waste of money, AVOID

Excellent quality and perfect replacement.
I purchased this amp to replace my old, obsolete Technics amp.I'm a electronics technician and I finally got to the point that I could not get the necessary parts to repair it.I was very happy to find something that was compatible with all of my speaker system. This amp is excellent quality and will work with all of the other electronics in my theater system and more. The price was quite reasonable too.Ken Beamish
