the best!
This baby is nice - it is sharp - super super sharp - and I always want to grab for it. I wish I had checked out the premier (same amazing blade with hammered finish) but I really like the handle on this. I am a woman and have hands on the smaller side, this handle is a perfect fit! - It is light but it is balanced. The handle is very dark so you don't see much of the pattern of the wood. I tried the Miyabi mizu - looks beautiful but this cuts so much better, like it more than my favorite classic Wusthoff

If You’re Willing to Buy the Best
I have many Shun knives and often give them as special gifts. I usually sharpen my knives each time I use them, and Shun knives maintain the sharpest edge I’ve ever seen. If you put your knives in the dishwasher, throw them into a drawer or don’t know how to sharpen them properly , a Shun knife isn’t for you. If you want the best, look no farther.

Perfect size for my hands and grip. Its sharp, easy to clean, and beautiful. I use one of these in my food truck and I bought one for my son in college. I always recommend Shun knives!

This thing is sharp vs Wusthof and Calphalon
This is my first Shun knife. It is hard to go back to other knives after using this one.Cuts are easy and clean. The knife is light and well balanced and feels good to hold.I have not experienced any chipping that other reviewers mentioned. But I can see the bladeis thinner than my other knives and this knife probably cannot take abuse.Compared to the Wusthof that I own and re-sharpened, the Shun cuts easier.I did go back and sharpened my cheapo Calphalon Kantana knives from 20 years ago with a water stone just to compare. And the Shun is still easier to cut with but not by much. I guess the thinner blade and narrower angle gives the Shun a structural advantage regardless of sharpening on the Wusthof and Calphalon. The tradeoff is the Shun blade feels more delicate than the other knives.I was surprised that sharpening a cheapo knife came close to the Shun. I'm paying a huge premium to getincremental gains in sharpness. So it is a hard decision whether to upgrade my other knives to Shun givenhow expensive they are when I can spend 30 minutes really sharpening cheap knives on a $20 water stonegetting almost the same performance. Then again, I don't cook that much. I can definitely see the premium being worth it for someone who loves to cooks or cooks a lot and is going to use the knife a lot.

Did not meet my expectations
Did not meet my expectations. The design is very cute, the balance is excellent and the size is perfect for my small hand. What did not convince me is the sharpness, I thought it would be very, very sharper and it is not.
