Adaptation of the award-winning comic series created by Frank Miller. Interweaving multiple storylines from the series' history, the film paints a picture of the ultimate town through the eyes of its roughest characters. There's the street thug Marv (Mickey Rourke), whose desperate quest to find the killer of a prostitute named Goldie (Jaime King) will lead him to the foulest edges of town. Inhabiting many of those areas is Dwight (Clive Owen), a photographer in league with the sordid ladies of Sin City, headed by Gail (Rosario Dawson), who opens up a mess of trouble after tangling with a corrupt cop by the name of Jackie Boy (Benicio Del Toro). Finally, there's Hartigan (Bruce Willis), an ex-cop with a heart problem who's hell-bent on protecting a stripper named Nancy (Jessica Alba).

Super cool, super sexy, film noir at its best
I can't believe it took me this long to take a look at this stunning film noir piece based on the graphic novels, but it did. It has the sort of look I always like and it has style by the bucket load.Bruce Willis is excellent as the hard boiled cop Hartigan who has made a vow to protect a stripper, but for me the star of the show is Mickey Rourke, who nearly steals the show as Marv, a tough guy ex-con out to do the right thing for once in his life. The movie has style to burn, filmed in black and white of course but with certain colours highlighted, mostly red and it has a retro feel, mostly because of the great classic American cars and a narration from main characters which kind of reminded me of playing Max Payne. It has a real grizzled, film noir old fashioned quality to it that stands up to multiple viewings.I don't read graphic novels so I won't have a clue what they're like, but I am pretty sure this movie has the same kind of atmosphere and edgy quality that the Sin City graphic novels have. An all star cast really delivers, the females are tough and as sexy as hell, the guys are super cool, and sexy in their own way I suppose, so something for the ladies there, (particularly with Bruce Willis and Clive Owen of course) and it has great stories packed into it. I was totally bedazzled from the first viewing dvd and have now got it on Blu ray and have seen it three times already. This is like film noir at its best for me and I would recommend Sin City to anyone who is a fan of either the Sin City Graphic novels themselves or film noir in general.Super cool, super sexy.

An interesting experiment
It hooks from the word get go. Just as you get accustomed to one character, he is shot, and the next story unfolds. The male characters are extremely flawed, fleeing from the law, but they are willing to die if need be, in pursuit of their "justice".A series of bizarre creatures, inhabiting a city where money rules. The cops are on par with their criminal counterparts. And as for justice, what's that?A loathsome senator with a rapist/ murderer for an heir has him "repackaged", (to ensure his grisly heir can produce his own heir to continue the family surname). The outcome an visibly ghastly obnoxious "thing" akin to an alien from a horror movie, still as murderous as ever.As for the senator he crows, people will believe HIS lies, and say the honest cop who saved the 11 year old girl from his son, is whatever HE says. He gets his just dues. His grisly offspring gets splattered, as he so richly deserves. As a man is about to be fried by the law, he says "come on, it that the best you can do? I haven't got all day.". Thought for a moment maybe he wouldn't be, but he was. Sad. Since he actually did more for hookers being killed by a cannibal and his clergyman associate, then the so called law. When those who glorify in violence are diced, sliced, eaten etc, it's hard to care. It's just a pity they are not killed excruciatingly painfully slowly. They might as well live by what they dish out! It's not emotionally engaging, but its an interesting ride.

Dark, deadly, damn good film...
This, ladies and gents, is quite a film. I've fallen in love with a film taken from a comic book- and I can't believe I used to dispise Frank Miller for his comics. The film is split into 3 main stories that all come together in some way, taking part in the dark streets and back-alleys of Sin City. The way it is all put together is magic; comics coming to life, with (in my opinion) perfectly cast actors for the roles.Bruce is the first act up (bar the introduction scene) with the full, 'Mclaine' taste he can create. Fighting for what he knows is right, he ploughs on through the hell Sin City and it's characters throw at him. The story he features in is the one to keep an eye on.Mickey Rourke comes in central-role into the second story- not exactly fighting for good, but fighting towards getting revenge. With the loss of an only love, anyone who gets in this big guy's way suffers. Painfully. Mickey plays this role OK, his size definately puts him in the right place for the role, although his acting can get sketchy.Rick Gomez stars in the third story, along with bad-guy Benicio Del Toro- a name I'm sure that those who know him will expect a great performance out of him... you won't be dissapointed. He plays the bad-guy role very well; and his voice is just right for it. Rick is after Benicio to stop apparent killings, only to be stunned ridgid with what he finds out. Suddenly the story takes an abrupt turn, with everything going wrong. This is another of the good stories on offer.I don't want to spoil such a film by giving any details about the ending, so I'll leave you to find out yourselves- I've already said too much!!The bottom line is: for your money, you get one fantastic film that you will be thinking about for days after watching it. Put it this way, I hate comics and have never EVER liked them. Now, I'm in love with Frank Miller's masterpieces. This is a film I'm sure people with all sorts of different hobbies will love- not just comic freaks. Slick and stylish, this is my number one favorite film of all time.

Not to watch if domestic violence or s/a is a trigger. VILE FILM
Wish I could give it no stars to be honest. Was recommended to me as a classic film. All the women in this film are used as objects. Paraded around mostly if not totally naked, as objects to save but also beat up while saving, torture and when they were no longer useful as mono tone manikins they were violently murdered. The men in this are proper "nice guys" / "white knight" syndrome. They look as if they care about women but in every single story line they beat on or get into pedophilic relationships with the women they're meant to save.Several go into explicit detail about how they are going to sexually and violently assault women and this film is lorded as a classic with such nonchalance regarding the exploition and violence towards women. This feels like a film Incels would love.
