Pintrest for Boomers
Normally, I would try a recipe before I review a cookbook. But no need, with "Fix It and Forget It." One of my favorite recipes is already in there, under the name "Post Roast with Creamy Mushroom Sauce," page 286, submitted by two contributors, one in New Mexico and one in Pennsylvania. The recipe actually came from a woman's magazine in the '80s or '90s. I ripped it out of the magazine and had it posted on my refrigerator for years, until I could make it in my sleep. It was easy enough: a chuck roast, an envelope of onion soup mix, and a can of cream of mushroom soup. This cookbook is full of recipes that boomers and Gen X'ers tore out of magazine and/or shared with a friend, and eventually submitted for a recipe collection such as this one. It's our version of Pintrest.I bought the kindle version so I can travel with it when we get an RV, whose ovens come with a learning curve. Also, my cookbook shelf is overflowing. The Kindle version has hot links to the chapters in the Table of Contents, as well as to individual recipe in the Index at the end. I wish there were links to the recipes at the beginning of each chapter, and that the "meat" chapter had been separated into beef, pork, chicken and "other," but that's a small point. Generally, you can get to what you want through the "search" function. While most of the recipes are good old comfort food most of us made in the '80s and '90s, I did find a few vegan recipes for my kids. Another positive is that many of the recipes cook for 8-10 hours - long enough to put in a full day at the office and commute home. Very happy to have this on my electronic bookshelf.

Fast & Easy slow cooker recipes
I think this is a great slow cooker cookbook! It has a lot of recipes, and sometimes several variations of similar things (like several different stew recipes, several different beef stroganoff recipes, etc). It must have a few hundred recipes or more. Each page has probably 4 or 5 recipes on it- it's really a LOT of recipes!! I like the variety and choice. It appears the recipes were submitted by individuals, and I find most of the meals are more 'traditional' meals. Many of the meals are hearty and heavy, and probably not the most health concious, but they definitely remind me of the kind of meals I grew up eating. Most of the recipes involve very little prep work, and you can just sort of throw the ingrediants in and go. Some slow coooker cookbooks have you cook and prepare for 1 1/2 hours before you even start slow cooking- and that sort of defeats the purpose for me. I slow cook because I work a 9 hour day and commute 1 1/2 hours each way. After being gone 12 hours, and getting home late, I can't always cook a full meal. These recipes are so easy I can throw the ingrediants in the slow cooker at 10pm at night and put the slow cooker in the refrigerator overnight. Then, the next morning, I pull the slow cooker out of the fridge, plug it in and go to work. Dinner is ready by the time I get home. This is a good beginner slow cooker cookbook. It doesn't have anything in it that I would call innovative or groundbreaking, but it's a good place to start. I have some other cookbooks with more unusual recipes in them (for example "Not Your Mother's Slow Cooker Cookbook") but I still prefer this one for just your basic slow cooker meal.

The media could not be loaded. I’m a busy mom, and was super excited to receive this book. I love how simple recipes are and how easy it is to read. They are short into the point which is what I love. There are also hundreds of great ideas to make for all kinds of different things from breakfast to dessert! I can’t wait to try it out. If you like cooking with a crockpot or want to get started, definitely get this book!

A little disappointing
The recipes are pretty boring and too many are not crockpot only.
