PLEASE BUY THIS .
This book is so sweet. We have a tradition in my family to save up all our extra change in a jar all year, and then at Christmas time leave it on the doorstep of a neighbor that may be in need anonymously along with this book. Such a good way to spread Christmas cheer, and we’ve found when we give it to someone they often end up doing the same gesture for someone else. I love this so much!!!

A heartwarming Christmas tale
I read this book when it was first published but felt nostalgic to read it again. It's definitely one of those books to read every year at Christmastime. It's heartwarming, sweet and a bit of a tear-jerker when the entire story comes together at the end. It's also perfect for a Christmas stocking stuffer or gift! Some of my favorite lines from the book:"You couldn't get more beautiful if you swallowed last month's edition of Cosmo.""Smells were sweeter, gifts ever more thoughtful, and memories carefully logged away into their most treasured places.""Each sentence exploded off the page, expanding and filling space until the story felt whole."

Ending was better then the book
Hi! I recently bought this book from Amazon. Unlike the other reviews that had some negatives about certain aspects of the story/writing, I personally didn't care about them. Don't care what town it took place in, don't really care about timeframe (present day, 1870's). I am not a writer so I can't complain about how the writer wrote the story. I bought this book because I recently read The Note after watching it on TV so I wanted to read the book. I felt the TV movie was better then the book; movie was "sweeter", plus it had Genie Francis in it. The Christmas Jar book was along the same line as The Note so I bought it.I felt the beginning was sweet - how the main character, Hope, came to live with her adoptive mom and their life together. I enjoyed reading how well she was in school, growing up and all that stuff. When she actually came to be a receipient of the Jar and how she wanted to find out more about the background of the Jar I thought: "Wow, this is just like The Note!" I mean I knew it was along the same line, I just thought it would relate more toward Chrismas "good cheer" as opposed to "finding who was behind ....." I honestly didn't expect the similarity to be honest. The actual background of the Jar was sweet (I love that word, don't I?); I even told my husband about the "tradition", he just looked at me. Strangely enough, I do the exact same thing with ALL my change, I just don't buy presents like the couple did, I put it in the bank. I absolutely loved the relationship between the couple and their kids and how nice they were to Hope.Fast forward to the ending (and no I'm NOT going to tell it). As I was reading the last chapter or two I was practically teary-eyed (and I was on the train no less). Didn't expect it in any way. It was ... yes I'm going to say it ..... sweet and very touching. The ONLY negative I did have: I would have loved to have learned who actually gave Hope the Jar that initiated the whole search and for her to actually talk to the person and maybe it could have been a guy for her to have a relationship with (my wishful thinking here). If it actually did say it I honestly don't recall.Would I give/recommend this to someone to read? Probably not. Though I liked the book, it is not on my short list of books I would highly recommend to people and would read over and over again no matter how long I'll have the book. Though I would probably read the last 2 chapters over again.Am I sorry I bought/read it? No, because of the ending.

Making Christmas
Wonderful story on how easy it is to encourage, share, and bless those around us with a simple gesture like a jar full of change. Heartwarming story of how we intersect other peoples lives without knowing it. I.E. the butterfly effect.

Great book
This is a super nostalgic book for me. My mom would read this to me every Christmas growing up. I still love the book just as much as I did back then.

3.5 stars
Although this is a nice little story (and very short) you can tell its a christmas feel good book by how easily/ quickly things fall into place for the big happily ever after! Its quite a sad story in parts and I really enjoyed finding out about the history of the christmas jars but how the story begins and ends is a little bit too mills and boon/esque for me.A quick read, that like the christmas jars - I will pass on!

Sickly sweet
This is a bit too schmaltzy even for my taste. I love images of cosy traditional Christmases and haven't forgotten the true meaning but I wont be buying the sequel. A bit "all American"

Nice Christmas message
Bought this for my book clubs Christmas read. Overall verdict, was that it was an enjoyable , quick, feel good Christmas story, but was spoilt by the predictability and the twee ending.
