Meccano 25 Model Set

My son is into Lego bigtime and I just wanted to get something different for him. I used to have Meccano as a kid and loved it. Son is 5 years and think this is a little beyond him at present. I built the lift model mostly..he put a few screws in.Lego he builds with no help and takes about 2/4 hours to complete even some of the more complicated ones, millennium falcon as an example. I think mecanno is good because it's real world mechanics, but not in my opinion for children under 7yrs. Mecanno say, I think, 8-88yrs so keep that in mind.Personally I had great fun with it and I'm 59yrs. Don't regret buying it because think he'll come back to it in about a years time. The kit itself is ingenious and includes a nice little motor. It's fiddly to build, you need patience and a bit of thought. The instructions are, I found, a little visually complex. You get a manual for 8 models, the rest of the instructions need to be printed from the mecanno site. I could'nt understand why they just did'nt give all of them in the manual. But at the end of the day..great fun and good value.

This product is first rate and gives you so many variations in the same kit.Sadly, the French makers supplied with one vital piece missing and were so slow in responding.However, Amazon were immediate in their response and made sure our young were not missing out on their fun.Thank you Amazon!

In the long and noble tradition of Meccano, the steel parts in this kit are of excellent quality and the small metal components are well made too. Unfortunately, the gears are a cheap-looking orange plastic and do not exude an air of quality at all.I have constructed the first model of the 25 detailed. It is a sort of buggy with an electric motor driving the rear wheels and with a steering mechanism. Unfortunately, although it looks good and the electric motor will propel it well, the model is not well designed from an engineering point of view, and I had to modify it in a number of ways to make it work properly. The drive to the rear wheels does not fit on the axle provided, and the steering mechanism, which uses an inadequate plastic rack and pinion, is not up to the job. The amount of movement on the front wheels when they are turned is minimal and hardly takes the vehicle off a straight line, rendering the whole concept of a steerable model somewhat redundant.I do not know how the other models perform, but my initial experience does not bode well!Finally, a small metal part was missing and if I had not had one in another set, I would not have been able to complete the model proprely.All in all, I am rather disappointed.

This was a present for my 6 year old nephew....I think this was a little too old for him, but great activity to do with together with an adult.

My brother and I had Meccano when we were children and it was wonderful and very easy to construct (we are in our 50s now). This one is for ages 8 and up. Now if you were a high flying 8 year old going to Cambridge (if one could at that age) then you would probably be ok. There is no way an 8 year old could follow these instructions. My husband had to make the structures as it was impossible for my son, who is actually very good at construction, and it took him hours of frustration especially when my son picked up the toy only for bits to fall off (and yes he had tighten the nuts and bolts!). If this construction set is for children then please make it for them.

Who would not want one of these!!!! Bought this as a xmas preasent for my old man. Reason being because i remember playing with this stuff with him and i really wanted my son to do the same. Not easy to come by now adays but this stuff is really great fun and really teaches kids how to build and problem solve, not to mention the hours of fun and using your imagination to create GREAT THINGS!!!

Decades back used to live in my own world of Meccano set. This year bought on for my daughter, who just loves Lego, and hmm.. she is absolutely fallen in love with this. Once she went through the model lists she has started creating her own versions! Thanks again Meccano. Simple yet stimulating, game as well as educational. A fool proof sure shot winner.

Having purchased this Meccano Set for a boy of 14 whom I wasn't sure if he would enjoy or not, I found him playing with it in an 'secret pleasure' way in just in case he would be seen and loose his street cred!So for that reason I would highly recommend this product particularly for those kids who have a interest in being creative - even if it's in a secretive way!It could open up a new world for them away from the X-box!

I love Meccano...reminds me of my childhood days. Got this one for my nephew (age 10) and remembered that you need to have plenty of patience to create the the different models listed - forgot that in today's age of electronic entertainment and immediate gratification this might be a tad archaic. However, having said that, I have to mention that my nephew was extremely overjoyed to receive it and sat down with it immediately to decide on the model to make. The accompanying brochure details about 8 models and on-line you get the instructions for the rest. We did not look at the on-line version; the details in the brochure were pretty good. It took us about 45 mins to finish the first car and my nephew and I were so excited!I definitely think that you need to provide some assistance in making the models - at least, that is what I did and it was a lot of fun for me too. The pieces are built solid; the package says "Made in France" and I read online (somewhere) that Meccano has relocated most its manufacturing units from China to Europe/France to have more control and better quality. Since I have no experience with the Chinese made models, I cannot comment on this. As I said previously, the parts/bits felt solid...at least to me.The seller is also good, although located in the U.K. Received package before posted delivery date in absolute good condition.Overall, I have enjoyed and would probably buy it again.

Plusieurs combinaisons sont possibles, la notice est assez synthétique, mais suffisamment détaillée pour réussir à construire les modèles.Le petit moteur est un plus sympathique, mais il faudra prévoir l'achat de deux piles AA, qui ne sont pas fournies.Si les constructions sont bien montées, elles seront bien solides à la fin, assez pour survivre à une chute dans un escalier par exemple!

Es un juego apto para prácticamente cualquier edad. Permite horas y horas de diversión solo o en compañía.Presenta una variedad de posibilidades y eso lo hace más interesante. Es la primera vez que tengo un meccano, y me ha gustado mucho. Las instrucciones son claras y sencillas de seguir. Un inconveniente que he experimentado es que del trajín las tuercas tienden a aflojarse con facilidad

Great toy for the information age where no one knows how to make anything anymore. Most kids are all about nintendo and ipads so this stimulates another part of the brain that is slowly going dormant in the new generations.
