Pay your Respect and Love for Atla
It hurts to see her go I no we all knew that she had great and wonderful potential for so many great amazing things and her life was cut short in order to protect Naofumi and be his shield and make the sacrifice move that he was gonna make and saved who knows how many from death and countless numerous possibilities of injuries and hurt a bit of a cowards part but very brave to announce that Raphtalia loved him as a man not as a father figure and that sh herself actually loved him to I hope and wish that Atla will be remembered as a HERO to the world and it be recognized as that her brother will step up as the Gauntlet Hero for his sister

Rise of Atla
I first read this series as a web novel, the first few books were nearly identical except for toning down some of the more violent aspects of Naofumi. If you’ve seen the anime series it was completely watered down.Aneko Yusagi took the opportunity of the light novels to greatly improve the story and characters. Here we are book 15, it keeps getting better.Unlike the conclusion of the anime Naofumi is still trying to survive the waves and go home, alone. He is building his slaves and companions to survive in a world without him. Raphtalia caught on long ago and is still heartbroken, she hopes he might have a change of heart ( as in the anime ending) but at the conclusion of the last story arc where the Shield Hero invaded/conquers two countries for her sake (and the god given right to dress Raphtaila as a miko) she finds Naofumi’s end goal is for her to be able to survive, no thrive, after he is gone.He is like the not just for her but all his slaves/companions. His end goal is to have built them up enough they thrive on their own despite the crappy world full of discrimination they live in.So we come to the conclusion of Atla’s story arc, she started out as a sickly slave on the verge of death. Sold to the Shield Hero he heals her as a way to control her brother, or so Naofumi rationalizes it. Atla thrives, becoming powerful, rivaling the power of heroes, but her true rival is Raphtalia for the heart of a man who sees both young women as children he must protect. This is Atla’s story and it has a profound effect on the stories to come.SpoilersIf I remember the webnovel correctly the next half of this story has some big changes, we get to see what the Queen saw in Trash, we find out more about those sabotaging the heroes efforts to save their world, and the Shield Hero has a chance to lay down the fight and go home. Atla as has a role to come but I will not spoil it. Of course there are a lot of changes to the light novel series most of them for the better. There was one web story arc I don’t believe has been translated where all the hero’s can’t bring down an alternate version of Naofumi sick with rage after he believes Raphtalia is dead. Interesting story but I don’t know how it would fit in with the reordered timeline. Like another where Naofumi loses all his hate and rage, becoming so unlike himself it creeps out his companions, so much so they throw him back on to the wrath absorbing dragon corps to regain his usual distrusting nature.

The most emotionally packed volume thus far
The battle againts the Phoenix draws near; Naofumi has finally united all 4 heroes under one banner and is actively preparing to face this dangerous enemy. Meanwhile, Fohl secures Naofumi's word on keeping Atla away from this battle, to which she adamantly disagrees, expressing her intentions on being the Shield Hero's protector. Will Naofomi's party be enough to defeat this divine beast or will this prove to be a mountain too high to climb?Picking up from my review of the previous volume, the writing now is very fluid and comprehensible, I only noticed a single grammar mistake which was very permissible. This volume packs a punch. The emotional highs and lows are brutal as Naofumi and gang are faced with impossible decisions that will ultimately shape their lives forever. An absolute must read for fans of the series. My only gripe is the 3 month wait for the next entry.

Clever, a little sad
I'm a woman and reads these LNs unironically. Perhaps that explains why I never liked Atla. Strap in for spoilers, folks.First, let's talk Alta. From the start (she was introduced as a sickly, blind burden) to the end (reduced to shield power-ups), she irked me. A lot of the herem nonsense was centered around her, she constantly harassed Naofumi and was in the most stupid cliched catfight with Raphtalia, she was useless for a while, then useful when the plot said so (like Rishia in that way), and now, in this volume...well. I'm not sorry she's dead, but I think I finally understand who she was supposed to be.Naofumi's entry into the world that encompasses Melromarc, Siltvelt, Q'Ten Lo, etc. wasn't exactly smooth and easy. Accused of rape and distrusted by all, he went to some pretty dark places to become powerful. It's only in the more recent volumes that we learn that trust increases a hero's power. The author wisely realizes that love is a form of trust, and by having Atla perform her self-sacrifice, not just so Naofumi could live, but so all the others could, too, is just about as pure an expression of love/trust as you could ask for. This removes the negative effects of using Curse Series skills (nice), makes Naofumi look at Raphtalia in a clear-eyed way, and gives us a new enemy to fight (who killed Atla? Probably Witch, but we don't know for sure yet.)The theme of trust is pushed in more subtle ways in this volume, too. The four heroes are finally working together. They no longer fight or bicker (though the curses on Itsuki and Motoyasu are pretty wild), and as a result, they manage to deal with a world-ending threat with minimal casualties. The contrast between the Phoenix battle and the Spirit Tortoise battle couldn't be more stark.Even smaller details support the theme: S'yne retains her powers, and even maybe her existence, because of the rapport between her and Naofumi. I'm starting to think that bridging the gap between worlds and preventing them from colliding and destroying themselves is going to have to do with that. Perhaps it's a little cliche--love saves the world--but I'm okay with that. What drew me to this series in the first place was that the hero actually saves people to the best of his abilities--and he's not the only hero on the field anymore. I don't like more "modern" cynical stories about antiheroes who don't give a darn about others. This series is strait-laced, straight-up adventure fiction; there are unequivocal heroes and villains, good guys and bad guys.I wrote before that I don't care that Atla died, but Naofumi--the hero--does. That's why he's the hero. I've come this far, so I hope the trust I've put in these characters so far will have a payoff. :)

Excellent isekai series
I've been reading this series since volume 5 was released. I bought the first 3 volumes at once and read them back to back. There have been a few slower chapters here and there, but plenty of plot and character developments. I also started buying the manga version when It premiered in English, and liked the artwork. So of course when the anime premiered I had to watch that, and plan to buy it when it is released in North America.I used to buy my books from indigo since I earn plum points and airmiles there, but they chose to cheat me on this volume even though I had preordered and prepaid for it. The book cost a couple of dollars more than at indigo (19.10 instead of 17.28) but I got it. I am looking forward to reading the next few volumes as the series comes to a conclusion. From what I read about the ending it promises to go out with a bang. The entire series is recommended to all who like scifi/fantasy stories, and especially those about people summoned to another world to fight monsters or evil beings. The story starts with betrayal and lost trust but soon becomes one of loyalty and friendship, though deceit and betrayal continue to happen. Besides Naofumi, Raphtalia is my favourite character. She turns out to be so much more than is originally shown, but Naofumi is a typically dense male who can't see what's right in front of him.

Unverzeihlich!
Ausgezeichnetes Band, jedoch für mich der unverzeihlichste und traurigste Vorfall zugleich ereignet sich in diesem. Mehr Wort bedarf es nicht.
